"The Basil family takes great pride in having the continued opportunity to bring you excellent automobiles as we have done since 1951. Still another stunning beauty, a 1966 Oldsmobile 442, is presented here by the Basil family for your consideration.
Oldsmobile's entry into the midsized muscle car market began in 1964 with the debut appearance of the 442. The 442 nameplate was meant to indicate that the car was equipped with a four speed transmission, a four barrel carburetor and a dual exhaust, early on this is how they were equipped. However, as the new 442 gained popularity, additional performance options were made available which included an automatic transmission. Although the 442 was a solid performer from its inception, by 1966, Oldsmobile chose to redesign the newcomer with longer sleeker body lines. This new body style succeeded in exuding that overall elegance that Oldsmobile had come to master. Coupled with a 360hp well tuned engine and a four speed transmission, the 1966 model 442 was capable of an impressive 13.7 second quarter mile time. Oldsmobile had perfected a performance beauty.
Basil Classics is pleased to present this rare and highly optioned 1966 442 convertible equipped with three two barrel Rochester 2GC carburetors atop a 400ci power plant and a four speed transmission. The three ""duce"" setup was a one year only option available on the 442.
The cleanly detailed engine compartment perfectly complements the 400ci powerplant which is correctly finished in a factory copper color. The power steering pump and power bake booster are just two of the many power options you become aware of as you review the expansive engine compartment.
Stunning silver metallic paint on the laser straight body panels is set off by the chrome magnum 500 wheels and the Firestone white letter radial tires. The stainless steel body side trim with inserted body color moldings contribute further to this classic look as do the near perfect chrome bumpers both front and rear. The addition of the new appearing black convertible top and perfectly clear rear plastic window take the overall look of this gorgeous 442 to the highest expected level.
If you are already impressed, as you must be, then it's time to hop into the driver's seat for an additional adrenaline boost. Here we find a nicely appointed black vinyl interior with comfortable bucket seats, a matching center console which houses a factory vacuum gauge and a four speed Hurst shifter. Additionally, beyond and to the left of the sport steering wheel, we find a dash mounted factory tachometer. A power top, power windows and an in-dash factory radio round out the extended list of options appointed to this beautiful 442. This one won't last long so come on in and have a look, you may find love at first sight.
