"1966 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
It is unwise to just tinker with an American classic like the Corvette Sting Ray. Changes should be meaningful. This fine road machine was and still is America's only true sports car. So, for 1966, the Sting Ray underwent subtle refinements in styling that only enhanced its unique looks and performance, always a basic measure of Sting Ray's appeal, and has been improved still further. A new ""street"" engine developed 350 horsepower and answers most enthusiasts' needs for traffic and highway driving.
For consignment, a 1966 Bowtie warship, (Corvette), with a 327ci 350hp drivetrain, Milano Maroon painted fiberglass, nice black interior, fully redone suspension, an oddly optioned factory power antenna, and a coupe rear curved glass and trunk line that comes to a point. Roaring side pipes, Torque Thrust wheels, front quarter air vents, (shark gills), and all restored to very nice condition, with 1 repaint and everything either refurbished or replaced and we now have a classic for your driveway and ultimate enjoyment. Turn the key and set sail.
Exterior
A single respray of the correct Milano Maroon painted fiberglass is showing very nicely with only a few minor faults, but still the deep end of the pool maroon! With the split wrap around bumpers, hidden headlights, newly designed grille and a hint of a stinger on the hood, the design for the front of this car is meant to slice through the air. A chromed trimmed windshield surround, and sleek rear of this car with more split wrap around bumpers and round taillights. These year 'Vettes really had the shark/stingray look. Speaking of predators, the back deck lid is to die for. Very close to the split window nirvana, this year uses the solid curved glass that turns into the rear deck and rolls around to form a point at the rear of the car. On back a pointy rear roll pan houses round tail and backup lights and punch through dual exhaust. More curve around split, like new rear bumpers, and a shout out to the upper doors which wrap around the roofline just like an aircraft and indeed it was inspired by this. All this aero art form sits upon 15-inch polished lip American Racing Torque Thrust wheels and all wrapped up in blackball radials and completes the ""look"".
Interior
Black leather with just the right amount of light age wear covers the bomber style chrome trimmed edged low back buckets that have a center console racing past them and up to the dash it goes. Here it ascends skyward housing the vertically mounted radio, and temp control knobs with a large chronograph clock in the center. From here the dash spreads out using 2 eyebrow arched panels, the driver's side housing the gauge and knob cluster, and the passenger side the brushed aluminum panel glove box. Blacknearly perfect padded vinyl covers the dash top and is all in excellent condition. A teak wood steering wheel fronts this clean and mean dash and adds a touch of warmth to the overall interior. Speaking of warmth, lightly faded condition black carpeting is flooding the floors, and a shout out to the door panels which are also near perfection with their molded plastic and chrome trimmings with chromed cranks, actuator and pulls. Sleek design for these panels. Behind the seats is a sea of more lightly faded black carpeting and plenty of storage if you want it. Easily accessible from a push forward of either seat back.
Drivetrain
Under the flip forward hood is an example of machined art with a full metal jacket numbers matching orange painted 327ci V8 L79 power plant. This is looking fine with cast ribbed aluminum valve covers, a single 4-barrel factory Holley carburetor underneath the chromed air cleaner cover, and mixture is sent through a factory Winters foundry aluminum intake manifold. Nary even a sign of corrosion or rust, with even the exhaust manifold being no rust and looking newly blasted. A numbers matching Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission transfers power to an AOstamped and date-correctrear axle with a 3.70 ratio and Positraction.
Undercarriage
All shiny black sprayed metal surfaces with only a few specks of surface rust seen throughout. Fiberglass floor pans don't even have any dirt on them! All structurally sound and all mixed together with an independent coil spring front suspension and an independent rear suspension with a frame mounted differential with transverse leaf springs. All new 4-wheel disc brakes with new calipers, pads, rotors, hoses, and lines are noted on the corners as well as new parking brake cables and the exhaust piping is quickly routed away from the engine to either side and flowing into the well polished side pipes.
Drive-Ability
A super quick starter, smooth idle and upon the press of the accelerator, a quick response to move forward, so it was off to the test track. Here it handled like it was on rails, had bias free panic stopping, and fantastic acceleration from that 350 horse 327ci power plant. Everything was functioning perfectly, and it's a beautiful car to see and be seen in.
A fine example of the 1966 Corvette, the right maroon, the curved coupe back, stinger hood, the numbers matching engine, (327ci V8 350hp), and on the prowl for its next victim. ""When the shark bites....""
