1962 Ford Thunderbird Coupe
There is nothing quite as stunning as a classic car with flawless sheet metal coated in dazzling black paint. This mirror finished, Third Generation, Thunderbird hardtop, still looking brand new after 60 years, has been painstakingly cherished by the seller since 1988, and is mechanically as sound and as fit for service as it was six decades ago. What is most remarkable about the car is that it is a survivor; repainted, maintained, and serviced as needed to be sure, but it remains original in almost every respect. Ford produced 68,000 model 63A TBird coupes in 1962, but there are only a handful left today that can compare to the great presentation of this car.
This Bullet Bird is powered by the strong and reliable 390 CID FE V8 developing 300 horsepower, and features a Cruise-A-Matic automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, power windows, tilt away steering wheel, deep pile carpet, vinyl seats, chrome wheels, new Uniroyal Tiger Paw white sidewall tires, new shocks, new brakes, and aluminized dual exhaust with period correct, rumbly, Smitty mufflers. The odometer shows just under 60,000 miles because it was zeroed when a fresh NOS factory FE long block and Holley carburetor were installed in the early 1990s. At that time, the car was also repainted and it has been kept in pristine condition since. The seats were professionally recovered less than 10 years ago in marine vinyl, and there is no visible wear, no tears, no blemishes in the soft, comfortable, upholstery. The carpet, likewise, is as new.
Always kept indoors, regularly serviced, and religiously detailed and polished, this car has been a car show favorite for many years, often winning trophies for paint and overall appearance. Driven mostly in Las Vegas for the past three decades, it drives easily, the air conditioning blows cold, and an aftermarket Custom AudioSound AM/FM/MP3 radio keeps the Oldies but Goodies rollin’ on. This is the kind of car that draws attention from all passersby, and guarantees miles and miles of trouble free smiles.
All of the chrome and stainless steel trim, grill, bumpers, and badges on this Thunderbird came with this car when it left the Wixom, Michigan assembly line in 1962. The chrome has not been re-plated, and no portion of the brightwork has been replaced. Considering its age, the shiny trim condition is way above average. The windshield and tinted window glass is original. The trunk space is clean and still looks new. Needless to say, there is not, nor has there ever been rust in this car. The undercarriage is clean, though it may not sparkle like the rest of the car since it is a driver, not a trailer queen. This car was sold new in the Chicago area, thus it was dealer undercoated.
Original wheels, carburetor, AM radio, and other spare parts come with the car, as well as a custom car cover, and plenty of documentation. It has a clear title, of course, and since this is a private sale by owner, only cash or bank to bank wire transfer of funds is accepted.
