1957 Porsche 356A Replica
THIS IS PERHAPS THE BEST 356 TYPE 2 SPEEDSTER REPLICA ANYWHERE.
This car was built by Vintage Speedsters, featuring a strong 1915 CC dual port engine, 4.12 Freeway Flyer Transaxle, front and rear disk brakes, exquisite Aquamarine Blue finish and both soft top and tonneau cover.
This beautiful Speedster was purchased new from Vintage Speedsters in Hawaiian Gardens, California.
The flawless Aquamarine Metallic Blue finish is an authentic original Porsche 356A color, and the body fit is extraordinary. The quality of the Vintage build is unmatched by other fabricators of this model. In fact, the attention to authenticity in this Speedster is such that only a Porsche expert would notice it is not an original. This Speedster Replica displays all of the badges and emblems, including the Reutter Coachwork badge, that adorned the original Porsche. The teardrop taillights are a departure from the original configuration (4 round taillights). Mesh headlight grilles are a tribute to the racing heritage of the Speedster. Polished 15 inch alloy rims with Porsche center caps are wrapped with P195/65/R15 rubber with virtually no tread wear.
The soft tan interior complements the wonderful exterior hue. The comfortable bucket seats, and the German square weave carpeting with protective mats show no visible signs of use. A correct three spoke Nardi woodgrain steering wheel features the Porsche emblem. The Speedster has functional heat vents in footwells, and an AM/FM/MP3 radio, and the soft top with window inserts, convertible boot, and tonneau cover match the tan interior. The car also comes with a full car cover (unused – new in the package). An electric fuel pump, added fuel pressure regulator, electronic distributor, and 12V alternator ensures easy starts and top performance on the road.
This car was built just two years ago and there are a scant 2600 miles on the odometer. A 1.9 liter twin port engine with dual Kadron Soley 40mm carburetors drives this 356A Speedster and delivers 110 horsepower. A 4.12 Freeway Flyer transaxle with a final overdrive ratio of 0.82:1 yielding excellent acceleration, and easy cruising at freeway speeds. Needless to say, this replica outperforms the original Porsche 356A with nearly double the horsepower and superior handling and braking. And the best part is that this modern version of the 1957 classic can be driven without spoiling its value.
In 1957, Porsche produced a total of 1171 Speedsters. It is unknown how many of those cars have survived the past 65 years, but their rarity and popularity have driven the prices sky high. Recent sales of the original Type 2 Porsche Speedsters range from $300,000 to $450,000. Considering that it is difficult to discern this replica from the real deal, and knowing that very few owners actually drive an original without fear of an accident, or loss of value because of added mileage and wear and tear, the value in a replica can be summed up in four words – ITS FUN TO DRIVE!
NOTE: The last photo in the group shows an authentic original Porsche in the same color combination. When they are compared, it is clear this tribute Speedster certainly does it justice. And, at a small percentage of the cost, the practicality of owning this replica car pays huge dividends in enjoyment. It is meant to be driven, not languish in a collection.
