"1956 Chevrolet 210 2-Door Sedan
The Chevrolet Two-Ten, or 210, was the midrange model of the Chevrolet car from 1953 to 1957. It took its name by shortening the production series number, (2100), by one digit in order to capitalize on the 1950's trend toward numerical auto names. The numerical designation '""210""' was also sporadically used in company literature. It replaced the Styleline DeLuxe model available in previous years. The Two-Ten was discontinued after the 1957 model year to be replaced by the Biscayne. The Two-Ten shared the wedge-shaped side trim with the Bel Air, but unlike the Bel Air, (which had the wedge filled with an aluminum trim panel), the Two-Ten's wedge was painted either body color, or top color with the optional two-tone paint package. ""Chevrolet"" in script was mounted inside the wedge.
This very nice example of 210 2 door in two tone exterior colors. Sporting a consigner stated 350ci V8, bright and shiny trim, and snappy two tone interior you can't go wrong with this middle year Chevy from the Tri-Five craze. This beauty is ready to go or show, just turn the key!
Exterior
The 1957 version is always the talk of the town, but this writer feels that the 1956 version offers up a simplified cleaner design all around. The shiny mirror like grille with its big bumper below a horizontal sectioned egg crate silver grille and above on the hood is a jet age hood ornament and just below a cloisonn Chevrolet badge. Single headlights framed by fenders with the beginnings of a trim spear on the sides, it just does not get any better. The chrome in this car shows some dimpling and slight pitting but remains shiny. Flowing down the side there is the ever-widening single spear that takes over the rear quarter panel. Deep end of the pool Twilight Turquoise coats the front 2/3rds of the car while the remainder is resplendent in India Ivory, which covers the roof, trunk lid, and tail of this wonderfully designed car. Rocket-like tail lights within a rounded over triangle bezel frame the trunk and still hide the gas fill cap to boot! Another cloisonn badge in the center of the deep trunk lid, and below another shiny bumper and dual chrome tip-exhaust out the bottom. 14-inch aluminum slots are on for the hot rodded wheels look, and these are wrapped by 215/70R14's in front and slightly larger 225/60R14's for the back.
Interior
Swinging the doors open we shake hands with ivory tuck and roll stitched paneled door covers that have kept their pristine original cranks, handles and chrome trimmings. These panels are bordered on top by turquoise painted steel and turquoise carpeting below. Stretching from door to door in front is a bench seat with a split back which is covered in ivory vinyl with door panel matching tuck and roll stitches. Bolsters are smooth turquoise vinyl . The rear bench follows suit in design with the front, and floats on dark turquoise clean carpeting. The steel turquoise painted dash in dual fan style, (another feature which will sadly go away in '57), fronts the seats and is very clean and the factory fan style speedo ion blackface and a shiny bezel. The dash has a few knobs and pulls, but is devoid of a radio just the opening is here. Below is the glovebox and in front of the passenger the other fan with a V below and Chevrolet in grandma's handwriting in the black field of the fan design. Fronting the dash is a factory steering column and steering wheel. Hanging below the dash is a trio of aftermarket gauges in a black panel. Noted in the trunk is black painted steel with no liner.
Drivetrain
A top-notch redux under the hood, with an orange/red painted block displacing a consignor stated 350ci. V8. It is topped with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carb and Edelbrock intake. I see chromed valve covers and an open chrome air cleaner covering. Attached to the rear of the mill is a TH350 3-speed automatic and put to the ground with a 3.36 geared rear axle. All this in a fairly clean and slightly patinaed engine bay.
Undercarriage
All nicely restored, with slight surface rust erupting in a few areas along with some invasive rust in a few of the body hangers and rear filler pan, but structurally sound and all clean underneath. A fairly new exhaust system, fed by long pipes makes its way to the back of the car through Dynomax mufflers where it ends well with chromed turn downs at the rear bumper. Power disc brakes are on front, and power drums have been mounted to the rear. Independent coil springs are in front and on back leaf springs. A fine presentation under here.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and overall good runner. It has great acceleration from the V8, nice handling thanks to the suspension setup, and the power brakes and manual easy steering are a benefit and work flawlessly. All controls worked successfully save for the heater blower for my test, and I enjoyed myself so much I took a few extra laps around the test track loop.
A very nice restoration and slight upgrade to the original. Great color scheme, nicely preserved chrome, and beautiful original looking dash. One of the top-notch examples of a Tri Five Chevrolet to have gracing our Hallowed Halls at the Classic Auto Mall.
