"1951 Ford F1 Pickup
The 1951 Ford pickup was a pivotal member of Ford's ""Bonus Built"" line of postwar trucks. The line was announced early in 1948 and ran through 1952. It was the broadest roster in Ford truck history, spanning vehicles from half-ton pickups to three-ton commercial haulers. Featured were a ""Million Dollar Cab"", (it cost $1 million to design and tool). Ford said it had ""Living-Room"" comfort, and it was much higher and wider than before, and better fitted. Styling was classier and cleaner, and the Ford six and V-8 engines were available.
For consignment a 1951 version of the F1 from Ford. This hauler has been restored with two tone paint, larger tires, a new interior, and a stained pine paneled bed. Read On!
Exterior
The 1951 Ford pickup introduced a new front end. Gone is a smiling horizontal-bar grille and inboard headlamps, replaced by a single-bar grille with three massive ""teeth"". These are painted silver in this truck. A wraparound front bumper, dripping in chrome, that gives these trucks a more aggressive frontal appearance. Fenders of this truck present in silver along with running boards. Being somewhat taller, those fenders allowed the hood to adopt a flatter, more modern appearance and this one does not disappoint with its maroon pants and chromed trim spear looking like a rocket going through some heavy air. The ""million dollar"" cab is nicely penned and also shows in maroon painted steel with shiny window trimmings. Doors are minding their gaps nicely and have a chromed stalk round mirror off of either side. The bed sides are in maroon as is the tailgate, and the bed has been relined with pine boards with steel mounting ribs between the planks. The back bottom is trimmed with another shiny curved smile bumper and round tail lights on either corner. The moon caps and chromed trim rings are covering the steel wheels which are wrapped in 235/75R15's for the 25th week of 2016 and have raised outlined white letter edges.
Interior
Inside I'll need to invoke my safe word as I can see many shades of gray. The doors have maroon edges and silver steel panels with a broadcloth gray panel housing a speaker. Inside, a gray vinyl bench stretches from door to door and has some paneled stitched inserts. Upfront the original dash is now appearing in silver and it has new round gauges in blackface and white lettering and numbering. The speedo uses a pink LED readout for the mileage. Below is a lineup of pulls and knobs and in the center is the radio grille with a Pioneer AM/FM/CD digital stereo hiding below the dash. A nice wood rimmed and billet center rally steering wheel is atop the truck's original column with its 40's looking turn signal box on the side. Round pedals are in and float above black rubber flooring which is perfect for that job site. In the center is a modern ""cooler"" style console for storage, cup holders, and it can be removed for travel with you. The interior above is lined with gray melamine which is beautifully smooth and perfectly fitted.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is the correct 239ci V8 flathead engine. It has been restored finish wise, but as to mechanicals, it's unknown. It has a single 2-barrel carburetor on top, and a 3-speed manual transmission on back. A 3.92 rear axle is on to turn the tires. A stock style exhaust is seen and looks clean, as does the entire engine bay.
Undercarriage
Clean, and even the bed boards are stained underneath. Nice black framing and leaf spring suspension working with drum brakes provides the ride.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter and smooth runner, bias free panic stopping and easy smooth manual shifting and this two toner is a pleasure to drive. All functions are in working condition.
A nice resto job with some new parts for modernization. A very clean interior, and nice running power plant right out of 1951 with its new design for the front end and new cab.
