"This 1950 Willys-Overland Jeepster is titled as a 1949 model and looks fabulous!
This Jeepster is being offered by the same seller as our 1948 in red. He purchased the Jeepster in 2015 and again wanted the car to be dependable as he linked to drive it weekly. The car was sent to be stable in Glen Carbon, IL in 2015 for the car to be serviced at over $16k. R&R brake drums, wheel cylinders, hoses and master. Converted to 12 volt system. Including rewiring of car and bulbs, R&R heater and defroster. Paint while out, repair shift rod linkage, repair e-brake, see attached.
In 2016 the engine failed. Le Stable removed the motor and it was sent to Jeepster Jim in Howell, NK for a complete rebuild. At a cost of $10k. Le Stable R&R the engine, installed a new exhaust system, R/R oil sending unit, new shock front and rear, new spring shackles and bushings in the rear, and installed a new speedometer cable for an additional $7k. The car is very well sorted and ready for the new owners enjoyment.
This example, one of 5,836 Jeepsters made in 1950, was assembled in Willys-Overland's Toledo, Ohio factory. Dressed in black, the Jeep's paint and trim are in overall very good condition. There is a black, snap-on canvas top that is in satisfactory condition. Side windows are also included.
The bodywork is solid and straight and the chrome bumpers fit tightly to the body. There are also dual spotlights. The vehicle's electrical system has been converted to 12 volts from six. All bulbs have been changed to 12 volts.
This Jeepster rolls on generic white stripe radials, size 205/75R15 at all four corners. There is a Continental kit in the rear. This Jeepster rides a 104-inch wheelbase.
Under the hood is the rebuilt original 134 CID ""Go-Devil"" L-head four-cylinder engine. Backing this motor is a Borg-Warner T-96 three-speed manual transmission and a Dana 23 rear axle. Other mechanical features are a Ross cam and lever steering, independent front suspension with correct, single leaf spring (Planadyne) and semi-elliptical rear springs with a torsional stabilizer bar.
Inside, the black vinyl seats with gray piping looks great and the front seat split 70/30. A complementing black carpet is in very good order, along with a two-spoke Ivory steering wheel that is in good, original order. The metal dashboard with a center array of gauges and inner door liners are in similar shape to the carpet and seats. A column-mounted shift lever rounds out the interior.
The 1950 model year featured the VJ-3 Jeepster's first styling revisions that included a new instrument panel and redesigned front end featuring a V-shaped grille with horizontal chrome trim. A new model was introduced with reduced standard equipment at a lower price.
The Jeepster borrowed features from both the Willys Station Wagon and Truck, attempted to bridge the gap between the ""utilitarian"" post-war Universal CJ Series and the one-ton ""family-oriented"" station wagons and -ton light-utility trucks.
Following the end of WWII, the Willys-Overland company chairman recognized the importance of expanding its offerings to include a civilian passenger car and with the help of industrial designer Brooks Stevens, presented a model more likely to appeal to younger market segments. The original Jeepster (VJ) was first released to the public on April 3, 1948.
Documentation includes original owner's manual, various service invoices, spare keys and various Jeepster booklets from the Midstates Jeepster Association.
