"1940 Ford Deluxe 2 Door Sedan
Excerpt from the Foreword section of the original owner's manual... ""The fact that you are the owner of a new Ford car is, in itself, an indication that you have a keen appreciation of a well-designed, carefully manufactured automobile. It has been designed to perform faithfully for many thousands of miles, and Ford Motor Company has the utmost confidence that this car will fulfill your expectations."" I think this wraps it up nicely!
For consignment, this beautiful iconic design Ford Deluxe. In wonderful condition all around with key upgrades for drivability and reliability convenience. Presenting very nicely, and a great driver, I can attest to this from firsthand experience. With a 302ci V8, Edelbrock 600cfm 4-barrel, two tone paint and some chopping, shaving, and frenching goin' on we have a winner winner chicken dinner hot rod in our midst.
Exterior
Vermillion paint, a very orange tinted red, covers all the straight, dent and rust free, steel panels that make up the lowers on the exterior of this car. For your added visual enjoyment, Desert Tan takes the handoff from the Vermillion and runs across the top of the hood, sills and roof. The front bumpers have been shaved, and a very nice art nouveau style V grille is flanked by 2 teardrop shaped headlights which are framed in deluxe oversized Vermillion painted bezels mounted to the middle of those ""phat"" extra flared front fenders. The roofline has been chopped and now is covered with tinted glass. Pristine running boards are below the doors and keep the fenders in line for the front and rear. These fenders frame 15-inch chromed steel wheels that sport trim rings and moon caps. Any chrome on the car has either been removed or painted over. On the back, the gently angled sloping trunk line is under the solid oval rear glass, making its way to the bottom I see stalked tail lights with painted bezels. In the center of the rear roll pan are dual wide chromed exhaust pipes peeking out.
Interior
A swing of the doors and I can see lovely newer Camaro IROC power high backed buckets. These are covered in shimmery tan suede for the inserts, and smooth leather bolsters. A lower center console races to the dash and it has a Vermillion panel in its center and a long Lokar shift lever. In the back of the car is a nice matching bench stretching from side to side and looking unused. The door panels also use the suede and have some molded embossed inset panels covered in the smooth leather. The driver's door has power window toggles. As I reach for the black padded rally steering wheel I can gaze upon a custom leather tan covered padded dash. It has been fitted with red LED Cyberdyne digital gauges which lineup to run across the dash in front of the driver. Below are Vintage AC controls, and a few pokes and pulls. Tan carpeting covers the floors and trunk space. Above is a suede headliner.
Drivetrain
Under the V shaped hood in a shiny Vermillion engine bay sits the jewelry like 302ci V8 circa 1978. It has a single 4-barrel Edelbrock carb on top and a C4 3-speed automatic transmission on back. A Ford 8 inch rear axle is in back. The air cleaner covering and valve coverings, along with some snazzy Vermillion engine block painting and this engine just sings visually.
Undercarriage
As expected, looking like the body was removed from the X frame and both were restored and put back together. Shiny road dirt free framing and floor pans are all structurally sound. The front suspension is a Fatman stainless steel Mustang II and in back area leafs with QA1 chromed shocks and a sway bar. Headers and a glasspack style muffler system is on, as are power brakes all around, discs in front and drums on back.
Drive-Ability
She ran like a top, had good power, bias free braking on the panic stopping, and all functions appeared to be working just swimmingly. A pleasurable test drive as well as a headturner.
A wonderful example of the 1940 Ford Deluxe sedan, very pretty paint in two tone. Call me a sucker for those teardrop headlights and that curvaceous rising grille. The new engine and plenty of power, along with the simple custom interior does not kick this car out of bed for eating crackers either!
