"1934 Ford Roadster Zipper
Between 1992 and 2000, hot rod enthusiast Darrell Zipp designed and manufactured two composite models of the popular 1932 Ford Roadster and Ford Vicky. Better known as the Zipper Deuce. Both models added a more modern style hood and removable roof, representing that of the ever-popular Hot Wheels cars.
For consignment, a custom built 1934 hot rod made by Darrel Zipp. Our consignor states this car was one of the first examples produced during the transition of the Zipper company being sold to Fiberblast Hotrods, which began in 2007. It is maintenance free fiberglass and reinforced with steel. It sports a chromed out 350ci V8 and has a six pack to feed this mill. Design is just spot on taking the ""deuce"" design from old Henry and adding a modern touch. Open wheel, open cockpit, sit in and open up the throttle to allow those thirsty carbs to quench the engine's thirst for power, which there is plenty of!
Exterior
A side view is all you will need to fall in love with the hot rod era, where kids were taking the nearly ubiquitous early to mid 30's Fords and stripping them down, hopping up the engine, and racing anywhere they could find that the po-po was not. This roadster is fiberglass bathed in black with a super long exaggerated hood, a beautiful shield style grille with stainless vertical ribs and a curve to die for up front. Simple headlights hang from either side, and plenty of chrome tubing suspension and snarling twisting exhaust add some contrast to the black. A split tinted windshield frames the front of the tub, which conveniently has a wide door for easy access and egress. This is a real plus for a ""normal"" sized American as some of these hot rods of the same genre, have no doors and you must hop over the rail to get in. Not this car. Behind the rounded rear tub sits the chromed rear pumpkin which appears to celebrate Christmas more than Halloween! Our builder throws on some 24x7.50-15's on front and framing the rear are 2- 31x12.5R15's, all wrapping 15 inch Weld Rodlite wheels. Which is just more chrome to add bling. Definitely not Henry's old deuce anymore.
Interior
Withing the tub floats a saddle brown leather bench with plenty of padding and width for the driver and passenger. Another plus from the typical hot rod with interior room. Tuck and roll saddle inserts are on the door panels, and upfront is a full fiberglass jacket dash which houses a lineup all the way across of instrumentation with white faced gauges and chromed bezels conveying all the vitals. A rally style steering wheel is fronting this black painted dash. In the middle of the bench is a cut out to make way for a B&M pistol grip aluminum shifter. Black carpeting floods the floors and out its simple elegance in saddle leather with plenty of room.
Drivetrain
A flip of the hood forward reveals a mill Henry could have only dreamed of, (and could be currently turning over in his grave!). This includes 350 cubes of V8 and up top are 3 two barrel carbs and power is pushed through a TH350 3 speed automatic transmission. The chromed rear sticking out the black is a Winters quick change version. Chromed headers and some snappy side pipes can be seen in full glory from the open sides of the hood. She's my little deuce coupe, you don't know what I got.
Undercarriage
All chromed, a front straight dropped axle with a chromed 4 bar setup is on, and in back flanking the pumpkin, is a 4 bar transverse leaf spring suspension setup with knee action shocks. Wilwood disc braking is on all 4 corners to add the woah! factor to the 6 pack fed 350ci mill power. All engine components are clean cast metal and plenty of chromed accenting. Even the radiator is a work of art in all its chromed glory.
Drive-Ability
An easy climb in and she fired up with a mighty roar. After a short warmup, it was off to the test track where performance was unbeatable with the power to weight ratio. Handling is very good, and with no power steering, turning was still a breeze. A good looker and definitely a cooker.
This car can test the limits of your courage with its power and open feel. It is exhilarating, and comfortable, and an e ticket ride if you want it to be, or a comfy cruiser down main street. A wonderful custom build with a slight modern take own the original stripped down hot rod. If this is your genre come in and check it out, if not just write it off a speed crazy kids in hopped up cars.
