"1933 Ford Speedstar Coupe
Although the first hot rods were built by young enthusiasts during the depression, ""hot rodding,"" as we know it today, became popular in the late 1940s following the end of World War II. With little to no money, these humble beginnings emerged a subculture that would forever leave its mark on the automotive world. Hot rodding is more than just cars; it represents a vibrant and tight-knit community driven by a shared love for customization, speed, and self-expression. Car clubs have played a vital role in bringing enthusiasts together, providing a platform for camaraderie, knowledge exchange, and friendly competition. Car shows and cruising events offer a chance for hot rod owners to showcase their prized creations while appreciating the craftsmanship and artistry of others. The hot rod lifestyle encapsulates a spirit of creativity, freedom, and the pursuit of automotive excellence.
For consignment, a real show car in the form of a 1933 Ford Speedstar coupe. This car was built for 1 purpose and that's to show. This car, known as Adrenaline, participated in the show circuit touring the country and wowing spectators. The chassis is by renowned builder Bobby Alloway, and every inch of this car is either custom painted or chromed leaving no stone unturned. Prepare to be amazed!
Exterior
Pick any view and you see rolling art. Let's take the side view where we see a raked chopped tinted glass passenger compartment, a long hood, no fenders and a wonderfully inverted C curved trunk line. In front are 17-inch polished Boyd Coddington rims wrapped by low profile 215/45ZR17 rubber and on back more 20-inch Boyd Coddington polished wheels and these are wrapped by 295/40ZR20 low profile rubber. The car has a miles deep coating of red base and then in front hand layered flames lick rearward before all being clear coated to the max. The front offers up a gracefully sloping vertical stainless ribbed shield styled grille that ends in a point at the bottom, nearly avoiding the road. It has a yellow corral and this is the beginning essence of the flames to come afterward. A single headlight hangs off of either side and these have painted red ball like casings and lenses that match the rake of the front grille. All stainless or chromed suspension and braking adds some bling to the bottom. The rear is just as sexy as a playboy centerfold with its rounded roofline and pinched oval rear glass which drops down to a curvaceous trunk lid that gently curves downward and ends with 2 frenched horizontal ovalesque tail lights on the bottom. The bottom end is open so one can have a view of the rear suspension and other polished mechanicals like the differential and springs. Plenty of straight lines with the body panels and their respective alignment, but the car uses the french curve for its actual design. Lay lady lay, lay across my big brass bed!
Interior
A pop of the suicide doors and I'm in saddle leather heaven. The door panels have various layers of stitched and curved design saddle leather and these are in keeping with the rest of the car's design. I perched upon a floor mounted saddle leather covered flat bomber style buckets with their tuck and roll inserts and some slight wear that comes with finely aged leather and took note that the floors have very clean padded edged carpeting and some darker inserts so essentially they are their own floor mats built in! Reaching forward, I grabbed the leather wrapped rally wheel which has a custom billet style 3 inner rim setup and next to me I could take in the console racing to the dash. It is painted red and has plenty of interplay with the padded saddle leather, even rising in back to form the seat sides. Some shades of flames appear at the shift lever and eventually turn to yellow as it makes its ascent. In this panel is an AM/FM digital stereo unit. From there is goes up to the dash which reminds me of a saddle leather covered squinting eye and the center is a digital dash in the squint. Blue LCD readouts are abounding in this blacked out panel. Toe kicks are padded leather panels and above is a suede saddle colored padded headliner all custom made. A shout out to the trunk which is now covered in perfectly aligned saddle leather panels...not your everyday pedestrian trunk. MMMMM breathe it in!
Drivetrain
As we flip the flamed long hood to the passengers side it reveals more custom painting with red and the flames which top a 5.7L LT1 Corvette mill. It has EFI, and a 700 R4 4-speed automatic transmission on back. Lots of bling has been added with chromed ribbed valve coverings, chromed fittings, ribbed stainless hoses and a chromed alternator. Headers and a glasspack style exhaust are on for the exhale. Nicely buttoned up under this hood.
Undercarriage
When you purchase this car you will also need to purchase a large mirror to sit the car above so people can see the detail and craftsmanship with the chassis, black and red painted framing and all chromed suspension. This suspension is of the 4 wheel independent with coilovers, and all Wilwood 4 piston caliper disc braking can be seen. All polished and a hint of some light water spots which I'll get our detail man to get on those!
Drive-Ability
The car lit up with a mighty roar and off like a prom dress to the test track I drove. Naturally my first test of any vehicle is the brakes, and while this car does indeed stop, some work needs to be done as the pedal is a bit soft and the car takes excess time to come to a halt. That said, the car ran like the wind and had great handling. All the comfort provided to me in the interior confines was wonderful and all was working just swimmingly. A real head turner.
If you are looking for a custom hand built rod with no stones left unturned then look no further it has arrived! SO much to say as you read above, and so little time to enjoy it. Take it all in and put it into your garage to go and show.
