1970 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible
This Karmann-bodied convertible is an original car featuring beautiful Clementine paint, a clean black vinyl interior, and a black convertible top. It is powered by a 1.6L OHV 8-valve flat-4 engine, producing 57 hp at 4,400 rpm and delivering 82 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm, coupled with a four-speed manual transmission. All chrome, trim, and badging are intact and in excellent condition. The trunk and engine compartments are clean, and the undercarriage and floors are solid. This Beetle is the second owner after the first owner’s long-term ownership, with just 75,000 original miles and special edition VW alloy wheels.
History of the Volkswagen Beetle:
The Beetle, officially known as the Volkswagen Type 1, was originally designed as the German “people’s car,” similar to how Ford’s Model T served America in the early 20th century. Designed by Ferdinand Porsche, the “Volkswagen” had to meet four key requirements set by the German government: it needed to be fuel-efficient, comfortably carry two adults and two children, reach a top speed of 60 mph, and feature an air-cooled rear engine. The popularity of imported Volkswagens eventually caught the attention of American automakers, leading the “Big Three” to produce their own compact cars. However, the American public remained enamored with the “Bug.” Today, the Volkswagen Beetle is a cultural icon, cherished by collectors and enthusiasts around the world.
This Beetle is stored in Pennsylvania, with a clean title in the owner’s name. The car runs, drives, and shifts smoothly, making it perfect for summer fun with this classic drop-top Beetle.
