1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS L78

There are Chevelles, and then there are L78 Chevelles. If you know the difference, you already understand this isn’t just another ’67 SS — it’s one of the baddest factory muscle cars Chevrolet ever unleashed. Finished in sinister Tuxedo Black over a black bucket-seat interior, this 1967 Chevelle SS L78 commands attention before the big block ever comes to life. Clean, aggressive, and all business, it’s the definition of timeless American muscle. With just 612 built for 1967 and a numbers-matching drivetrain paired to a correct period-correct L78 engine, this is exactly the kind of rare, investment-grade muscle car that belongs in the finest collections — yet still begs to be driven.

Engine & Transmission

  • Correct period-correct L78 396ci Big Block V8 — Chevrolet’s ultimate 396, factory-rated at a famously underrated 375 horsepower
  • Solid-lifter camshaft that announces this car’s serious intentions the moment it fires
  • High-compression internals topped with an aluminum intake manifold for strong, responsive power
  • Holley 780 CFM four-barrel carburetor feeding the big block for authentic L78 performance
  • Rectangular-port cylinder heads — the hallmark of Chevrolet’s top-tier 396
  • Original numbers-matching Muncie 4-speed manual transmission for a true, mechanical driving experience
  • Original rear end, preserving the drivetrain integrity collectors prize
  • The genuine L78 experience — built with one purpose: to dominate

Exterior

  • Sinister Tuxedo Black paint — the ultimate color combination for a car of this pedigree
  • Clean, aggressive SS presence that stops people in their tracks
  • Timeless 1967 Chevelle hardtop lines that continue to define American muscle
  • Purposeful, all-business stance befitting Chevrolet’s most fearsome factory offering
  • Presents beautifully inside and out, worthy of the show field or the finest collection

Interior

  • Handsome black bucket-seat interior for a driver-focused, period-correct cabin
  • Hurst shifter perfectly placed to row through the original four-speed
  • Factory SS presentation that keeps the emphasis squarely on the driving experience
  • The kind of authentic cockpit that reminds you why these cars ruled the streets in the late ’60s
  • Slide in, wrap your hand around the Hurst, and the solid-lifter valvetrain tells everyone this is no ordinary Chevelle

Suspension & Chassis

  • Desirable F41 Special Performance Suspension for tighter cornering and improved handling
  • Aggressive road manners expected from Chevrolet’s top-tier performance package
  • Factory power front disc brakes delivering stopping power to match the big-block attitude
  • A balanced, planted chassis that keeps this L78 composed and confident on any road
  • Engineered to drive as hard as it looks, exactly as Chevrolet intended

Additional Info

  • Genuine 1967 Chevelle SS L78 — not a restored clone or tribute, but the real article
  • One of only 612 L78 Chevelles produced for 1967, ranking among the rarest and most collectible muscle cars Chevrolet ever built
  • Original numbers-matching drivetrain (aside from the correct period-correct replacement engine) — an exceptional level of authenticity for a car this scarce
  • Finished in the ultimate Tuxedo Black-over-black color combination and equipped with the legendary L78 package, F41 suspension, power discs, and original four-speed
  • Investment-grade provenance and rarity that continue to draw collectors nearly six decades on
  • Ready for premier shows, weekend cruises, or the centerpiece spot in any serious collection

  • 64fuelie says:

I’m concerned about the add you posted on this car stating that it has a numbers matching drive train the says it’s a period correct engine block now seller stated in a reply to a question that he never even verified the transmission or rear end. I think you should post a BUYERS BEWARE notice on this car until someone can verify and post what this car really is.

  • LOVETHEMMUSCLECARS says:

Buildsheet? Authenticated by anyone? Please provide pictures of drivetrain numbers and all engine stampings, casting numbers etc.

    • badassrides says:

As the listing says block is period correct not numbers matching. we have not authenticated the transmission or differential we will have to get it back on the lift to confirm.
