1955 Studebaker Regal Commander Starliner Hardtop

The Studebaker Commander Starlight, the last year of the Starlight series (1947-1955), but in pillarless style became the “Starliner” 5 passenger hardtop.

Forward styling in 1955 the Commander is different by design. Sleek, sporty, and low slung the Commander is the antithesis of so many U.S. cars of the era.

Legitimately able to claim a “European” look with its aerodynamic car design and nimble weight of 3060 lbs. The design made no compromises with power as the 259 cu. in. V-8 “Bearcat” engine was good for 162 h.p. with 2 bbl. @ 250 lb./ft. torque. And excellent stopping power with front disc brakes. Owning this uncommon car in the 50’s made a bold statement for being unique. With only 3,296 in production this Commander is very rare.

Total Restoration from every nut and bolt a couple years ago. Chrome bumpers & all chrome excellent as shown. Interior is amazing with bucket seats and console. Mechanically every item professionally restored. Numerous trophy winner: Best of Show and in its class. Over the years I have kept her completely stock with these few exceptions: addition of electric fuel pump for easier starts (mechanical pump will be included) and newer oil filter design for maintenance. Also, the radiator was sanded & sealed to show its true beauty of the copper design. But the biggest surprise when driving is rowing through the gears with the 4 speed manual transmission with Hurst Shifter!.

Enjoy this beautiful work of art and be safe & healthy!

Love this car. This was my high school ride back in the ’50’s. The only difference is that mine had a black roof and trunk. You did an excellent job of restoration. Ten years ago I’d have bid, but I’m getting long in the tooth and have a couple of cars too many that I’m going to put up for auction. Great car that some lucky person is going to love owning.
