Looking to really stand out at a car show or a cruise night? Do you enjoy being the center of attention while on a vehicle cruise and listen to stories from strangers of how their parents or grandparents had a truck similar? This GMC truck is the one! It presents itself in the most stunning fashion, as it is a recipient to one AMAZING BUILD! Over $100K spent on a frame off restoration with full documentation and this truck comes from a good local friend who had nothing but the best local builders involved with this GMC.

This first-series 1955 GMC 100 five-window, half-ton Pickup Restomod will evoke all of that and more. A 2012-2013 custom build, it all started with a frame by Fat-Man Fabrications in Charlotte, North Carolina. This example was originally manufactured in GM’s Pontiac, Michigan factory (VIN code P).

Other chassis modifications and features include – independent front suspension and power rack-and-pinion steering box from a second-generation Ford Mustang II; a Walker Radiator with condenser; a four-link rear suspension with a Panhard rod; coilovers at all four corners; 11-inch front disc and rear drum brakes from a third-generation Chevrolet Camaro; a 16-gallon fuel tank between frame rails and a cool cap in bed.

Dressed in PPG Paint’s Perfect Purple Metallic from Automotive Unlimited, Inc., in St. Louis, Missouri, the truck’s paint and trim are in excellent order. The hood, front and rear fenders are all stock 1955 GMC panels while the grille has been re-chromed by Highline Platin, Inc. in Cuba, Missouri. There’s a side-mounted spare tire and wheel on the driver’s side. Out back, the cargo bed floor has been retrofitted with ash wood beams and stainless steel strips and bolts from Bruce Horkey. Tailgate graphics and pin striping come from Pfitzinger Graphics in Fenton, Missouri. The truck’s head and taillights are stock, as are the sideview mirrors. The front and rear chrome bumpers are classic Chevrolet chrome. There’s even an external sun visor.

This truck rolls on BFGoodrich Radial T/As, size 215/70R15 in front and 255/70R15 in rear. Each tire is mounted to an American Eagle alloy wheel, 15×7 in front and 15×8 in rear. The wheels are in excellent condition while the tires are in very good order with good tread depth.

The truck reportedly cruises at 60 mph with the tachometer at 2,300 rpms.

Inside, the truck’s cab has a stock 1955 instrument panel, painted to match the exterior, and it has a full array of Autometer’s Old Tyme White II gauges. A chrome billet Outlaw three-spoke steering wheel is mounted on a chrome Ididit steering column with tilt and a column-mounted shifter. There is a pair of cupholders in the center console and working courtesy lights. Covering the stock bench seat is gray leatherette from Auto Designs by Sebastian, Inc., in Waterloo, Illinois. The complementing gray carpet is also from Auto Designs. Completing the interior is a Kenwood AM/FM stereo with a CD player.

These trucks marked a change in attitude and usage in the mid-1950s when Chevrolet launched the Cameo Carrier, which was more of a styling statement than a farm or work truck. As the 1950s became the 1960s, the trend of trucks as personal vehicles grew. This particular restomod truck is a further extension of that philosophy.

Documentation includes miscellaneous insurance and maintenance forms. Truck collectors, classic Chevy collectors or anyone who simply desires a cool pickup to cruise in, should stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars to look over this Restomod Chevrolet from one of the golden years of automotive production.
