Presenting a truly unique 1940 Ford Custom Deluxe Coupe. Originally customized in 1956 by an owner from East Bridgewater, MA, this car was transformed into a two-seat “foreign styled” American classic named “Le Cobre.” A 1956 article chronicles the car’s initial creation, showcasing its early history. After various modifications and years off the road, the current owner discovered it in 1994, undertaking a full restoration and adding their own custom touches.

Today, this coupe features a rebuilt Mercury 351 V8 engine with a 4-barrel Edelbrock 600 CFM carburetor and a custom Cadillac “batwing” air cleaner, paired with an FMX Cougar automatic transmission with a 3.50 gear ratio and a new John’s rear end. It runs a 12-volt electrical system with an alternator. The car has logged approximately 5,000 miles since its restoration, with the drivetrain previously at 28,000 miles. The exterior sports a two-stage jade metallic paint in very good condition, yet to be sanded and buffed.

Mounted on a professionally modified 1979 Mercury Cougar frame (shortened by 41 inches and narrowed by 12 inches), this car includes numerous custom features:

The exterior includes a Wurth’s Custom 25-bullet grille, Swan mirrors, shaved door handles with custom door poppers, and numerous other custom features: a 1950 Chevrolet cowl, a 1953 Henry J roof and back window, a 1950s Oldsmobile Fiesta windshield, 1937 Nash rear fenders, stretched Ford front fenders, 1961 Dodge Coronet headlights, Frenched 1950 Pontiac taillights, and 1957 Corvette bumpers (reversed front to back and back to front).

The trunk is clean and fitted with an aluminum fuel cell setup, while the undercarriage features dual Flowmaster exhaust for a great sound. The car rides on brand new Yokohama tires mounted on custom-painted steel wheels with chrome spider inserts and trim rings.

This beautifully crafted, one-of-a-kind custom build has been meticulously maintained, always garaged, and is a real head-turner wherever it goes. It runs, drives, and handles excellently. Currently located in MA with a clean title in the owner’s name.
