1931 Ford Model A Phaeton Touring Convertible

Driver and Parade-ready are all the first impressions you get from this 1931 Ford Model A Phaeton. So this is exactly the one you want when you’re looking for open-top fun and vintage charm. This beauty was restored and repainted in the early 2000’s.

The Model A is an iconic favorite because you get a Henry Ford steel body, but with plenty more style than the Model T. You see it best in the Red with black top and black interior that’s nicely showing of the industrialism of the 1930’s. This even has painted wire wheels with  pinstripe, which gives this Ford an almost quadruple-tone effect. So it’s quite attractive before you take a look at the phaeton body. These have a thin roofline opening up the car even with the top in place. That gives this American classic a very European feel. So while it was far from the most expensive car Ford offered in 1931, today it has a great sporty profile that keeps it especially in-demand. And you’ll really love all the details on this example, like the trunk mounted on the back.

There’s a simple charm that awaits you when you open the door. Black vinyl on the seats, matching door panels, and a rubber mat on the floor give this phaeton roadster a robust look. It’s an authentically vintage appearance right down to the side wing mirrors with etching in the glass. Even the four-spoke steering wheel has that ideal classic feel. But there’s more going on here. The electric turn signals, tightness of the gear linkage, and the added dials – including a temperature gauge – all feel like this classic also loves to drive.

The sell has all service records and invoices back to 2001 and states that the 200 cubic-inch motor runs fantastic. See in video with cold start demonstration. And the way this fires up and runs reaffirms the feeling of a quality investment. It has been correctly updated for usability with a 12-volt electrical system and an alternator as well as front seat belts. That all makes for a true classic that gives you the right confidence to enjoy it. The three-speed manual transmission shifts cleanly with a classic action and the brakes are effective for a vehicle with modest performance and light weight. So this open-top four-door phaeton still knows how to be fun.

Nicely presented but not a show car, this was a parade car and was and still is driven often, this is the right Model A Phaeton for those people who love driving their history. It even has 2 jacks, tools, lubrications chart, car cover, and convertible boot, so, when you’re ready to drive it to the car shows or parades it is ready to go. Major attention getter!

  • what is the top speed this would comfortably go?
and in your honest opinion can it would you be comfortable driving it about 75 miles a week (about 5k a year) or is it more a parade car as is- (I know that unexpected mechanical issues do happen)

    • TruckGuy says:

I feel comfortable driving it around 35 mph, I know other guys that push them to 45 but that is not me. I see no reason why you couldn’t drive 75 miles a week but I would have everything checked out before you did that. I am more cautious just because I usually had grandkids in the car with me.
