Gently used 1987 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 – Scarlet RED, very low mileage, manual 5 speed, hatchback ready for a new home. This classic Fox Body with just over 31k original miles has spent the last 27 years out of commission stored up on jack stands in optimal weather tight conditions.
Call it a barn find of sorts – yet without all the dirt, the current owner purchased in 1994 as 3rd owner, about a year after purchase real life took hold and the car has been stored for a chapter ahead. Recently the owner has decided to recommission the car and ready it for sale.
For a little back history, this 1987 Mustang falls within FORD’s well proven “FOX” platform which successfully ran from 1978 through 1993.
The 1987 Mustang GT is reported to be the cornerstone of the 3rd generation Mustang run (1979-1993), 1987 revitalized the Mustang image mostly from the higher factory horsepower and performance that cultivated the well-known “bolt on” performance era of the 80’s forward.
This classic is a hatchback, all original drivetrain includes the 5.0L (HO) 225 HP Sequential Fuel Injected (SEFI) V8 mated to a stout Borg Warner T-5 (5 speed) transmission feeding the 8.8 rear differential with factory 3:73 gearing. Factory options include PS, PB, AC, manual crank windows, tilt steering wheel, AM/FM Cassette w/factory equalizer and partial power cloth sports seats.
According to an owner provided Marti report this car is a bit rare due to some minor points including Red Scarlet w/titanium lower accent exterior w/Scarlet red cloth sports seats, stereo option with graphic equalizer, front license plate bracket delete, AC option with rear hatch window defrost delete.
Focused to recommission, this beauty just received a full overhaul to braking, mechanical, fuel and cooling systems. The car has NO signs of any previous body work or damage, the undercarriage is pristine with no rust, the interior is perfect and all a true testament to the low mileage on this classic.
At some point the car looks to have been professionally clear coated (over the original factory paint) and currently shows very well and with great shine. In trend with popular 80’s “Fox Body Mustang” upgrades this car holds just a few including a fiberglass cowl style hood, ceramic coated headers w/stainless X-Pipe, upgraded front roll bar and some chrome attributes undercarriage.
The remainder of the vehicle is stock in nature and runs as factory with a little extra kick (in a good way) from the exhaust upgrades. The car is currently on the road and runs excellent with a true feel of a low mileage factory classic. Items for disclosure include the AC system which is fully intact but lacking freon and the factory AM/FM Cassese deck with equalizer requires service but also fully intact.
Additionally, there is one exterior picture of the driver’s side front “A “pillar where it meets the roof, this appears to be a small (factory) blemish on the finish. For recent commission the current owner spared no expense, for overview this car received rebuilt front brake calipers
Rear wheel cylinders, new master cylinder, new brake hoses front and rear, full fuel system overhaul including refreshed injectors, fuel filter and fuel fill neck grommet, new aluminum dual core radiator (for optimal cooling), thermostat, serpentine belt and tensioner
Rebuilt starter, rebuilt alternator, starter relay, new motor craft battery, all fluids changed and general tune up including 2 new oxygen sensors and TFI Ignition module with pickup coil.
This car is ready for a new home and in great shape, have some fun, it handles well and it’s fun to shift that T-5 behind that 5.0L HO injected power plant.
