1979 International Scout Terra – Rare, Collectible, Beautifully Restored
This 1979 International Scout Terra is a rare find and a true piece of International Harvester history. With its longer wheelbase, removable fiberglass Terra top, and classic IH styling, the Terra is already hard to come by—and this one has been carefully restored and tastefully upgraded while keeping originality intact.
History & Provenance
Originally purchased new in 1978 (’79 model year) and stayed with the same family until 1996.
Rediscovered and brought back by the original owner’s son in 2008.
I purchased it in 2022, after it had already undergone extensive restoration in 2013.
Always stored with care and used only for street driving since.
Restoration & Condition
Professionally repainted in its factory-correct IH Lexington Blue, stripped to bare metal before paint.
Body, frame, doors, hood, and tailgate are original sheet metal—straight, solid, and rust-free.
Fiberglass Terra top bed-lined white; bed and interior lined in Lexington Blue–tinted bed liner for durability.
Interior includes upgraded sound deadening, custom-covered steel door panels, and modern Alpine Bluetooth stereo (vintage 1979 Sanyo unit included as a collectible).
Overall, this Scout is both collector-quality and ready to enjoy as a reliable driver.
Powertrain
Stock drivetrain: 345 V8 engine, Borg-Warner T19 wide-ratio 4-speed manual, Dana 20 transfer case, Dana 44 axles.
Original 345 was replaced with a healthy 345 (all seals replaced, remanufactured oil pump, cleaned and repainted).
Champion 3-row aluminum radiator with stock fitment.
Lokar throttle linkage (bolt-in, reversible).
Hi-torque starter and RPT mounts for reliability.
Dual exhaust with Walker Sound FX mufflers (stock manifolds).
Mileage unknown due to speedometer replacement, but only a few thousand since restoration.
Upgrades & Drivability Improvements
Bolt-on Sniper 2 throttle body injection with electric fuel pump for modern starting and drivability.
Professional axle mods by Scout Co to correct the factory caster issue—improves highway tracking and steering return-to-center.
4″ Rough Country lift kit with 5″ shackles (all bolt-in, easily reversible).
BF Goodrich All-Terrain KO 33×10.5 tires (<3,500 miles) on restored IH 15×8 white spoke wheels; matching spare included.
Straight steer brace for added handling confidence.
Borgeson joint upgrade for power steering reliability.
Interior & Comfort
Chrysler PT Cruiser cloth bucket seats mounted to factory pedestals (original buckets can be reinstalled if desired).
Functional seat belts in original mounting points.
Alpine UTE-73BT stereo with Polk speakers in factory top locations.
70s-style aftermarket roll bar (bedlined black) with top light mounts.
Additional Details
Scout SSII–style black grille with bug screen.
New polypropylene factory-style 19-gallon fuel tank.
All upgrades are bolt-in, preserving the originality and collector value—this Terra can easily be returned to mostly stock if desired.
Why This Scout Terra?
Rare Model: Terras had an 18-inch longer wheelbase than Scout IIs, making them unique and harder to find.
Collector-Grade Condition: Original sheet metal, correct paint, and careful restoration.
Usable Classic: Modern drivability upgrades (Sniper EFI, steering mods, Bluetooth stereo) make it enjoyable and safe for regular use.
Investment-Grade: Scouts have been rapidly climbing in value—Terras especially, thanks to their scarcity.
If you’re looking for a Scout that combines collectibility, originality, and drivability, this Terra is the one. Very few of these trucks exist in this condition today.

I have purchased multiple vehicles through ACC auctions. I have a real passion for classic rare stock performance vehicles. ACC has managed to list some very unique cars, some of which I’ve been fortunate enough to win at auction. I’ve always received extraordinarily punctual high-quality service when I had questions or needed support through a transaction. I’ve even recommended friends marketing vehicles to use ACC auctions to assist them with their transactions. If I recommend them to my friends, I would certainly recommend to anybody!

I am so happy with my experience buying from ACC. I appreciate the reserve meter which allowed me to plan ahead. The auction did not meet reserve but ACC helped me & the seller reach a very fair deal. The spent 3 days with me and the seller to get it done so everyone was happy! A+ work, unlike any other auction site out there!

I love how with ACC, they keep working with the buyer and seller to try to get a deal done even after the live auction ends. They really work hard to make sure both sides end up happy.

Joe and his team are always a pleasure to deal with. They are quick to answer any questions or concerns that a seller or buyer would have. Always willing to work with the seller and buyer to make a sale happen. The auction site is easy to navigate and user friendly. I have been dealing with Joe for many years and would highly recommend him and his team.

Of all the sites I buy from, ACC’s post auction dealings are far the BEST! They are so far ahead of bring a trailer and the others, it’s incredible!!!!

I’ve sold a couple cars through ACC Auctions and have experienced very satisfactory results. I find the process to list a car, place bids, and ask questions or make comments extremely simple, which is greatly appreciated by those who didn’t grow up with modern technology. The greatest benefit, though, is having the ability to communicate directly with the person in charge, Joe, and receiving timely responses. I don’t find this easily available with most widely known auction sites.

ACC Auctions has been a wonderful resource for us and our dealership! The process of listing vehicles on ACC Auctions is very simple and the wide exposure has helped us reach more buyers and get more cars sold. There have been times where reserves have not been met, but even after the auction has ended Joe works very hard trying to put deals together that work for both parties. And in many cases, he’s been successful. We can’t say enough about how much he cares about his customers and how hard he works to be a world-class auction site!

We really appreciate how ACC continues to work with both parties even after the live auction has ended. They were able to help us reach a deal with the high bidder 4 days after the auction ended, a deal that was fair for both sides and everyone was happy. Hard working staff at ACC really seemed to care about helping us get the sale completed even though it was not a high dollar sale that would make them much on the buyer’s fee. Will use again and will be recommending to my friends!
