1973 Mercedes-Benz 280C Coupe

This 1973 Mercedes-Benz 280C is an honest, highly original example of the W114 coupe, the elegant two-door from the celebrated “/8” (Stroke Eight) family that helped define Mercedes’ understated design language of the era. It wears a rich dark brown non-metallic finish, a color that captures the early-’70s Mercedes palette. All of its original trim and brightwork are still in place, and that matters to any collector who knows how hard and costly complete coupe trim is to source. After long-term storage, the gasoline engine has been brought back to life with a rebuilt carburetor and new fuel lines. Its first drive was captured on video, and it is being driven now. It shifts well, drives well, and gives you a solid, authentic foundation to enjoy as-is or to take through a thoughtful restoration.

Engine & Drivetrain

  • Gasoline engine, recently revived after long-term storage
  • Rebuilt carburetor for clean, dependable fuel delivery
  • Fuel lines addressed as part of the recommissioning, a key step for any car coming out of storage
  • Running well and currently being driven, with the first drive documented on video
  • Transmission shifts well, with smooth and predictable operation
  • Drives well, showing the composed, solid road manners these coupes are known for
  • Rear-wheel drive for the classic Mercedes touring feel

Exterior

  • Dark brown non-metallic paint, a period-correct shade that suits the 280C’s clean, graceful lines
  • Older paint with some lacquer checking on the hood, clearly shown in the photos
  • Complete trim and brightwork, including the chrome accents that give the coupe its refined presence
  • Headlights and all exterior lights work
  • Elegant W114 coupe profile with long, low proportions and a timeless Mercedes grille
  • Tires should be replaced before regular driving

Interior

  • Classic early-’70s Mercedes cabin with the solid build quality the brand is famous for
  • Power windows: the driver’s side works, the passenger side does not
  • A/C blows, but does not currently blow cold
  • Interior dash lights do not currently work
  • Comfortable four-seat coupe layout that’s well suited to relaxed touring

Additional Info

  • 1973 Mercedes-Benz 280C from the W114 series, the sophisticated coupe sibling of Mercedes’ “/8” sedans
  • Complete trim and brightwork, a major advantage for originality and future restoration
  • Recently recommissioned after long-term storage with a rebuilt carb and fuel lines
  • First drive captured on video, so you can see and hear the car in action
  • The tires, passenger power window, A/C, and dash lights are clearly noted, so you know exactly where it stands
  • Many photos available, and additional photos can be taken on request
