1970 Honda CT70H

The CT-70, which was branded the Trail 70, entered the scene at a colorful period in pop culture, fashion, muscle cars, and even bicycles. Honda made the most of that timing, giving the CT-70 bright, can’t-miss candy colors. Following Honda nomenclature, the first-series CT-70s offered from 1969-1971 were K0 (K-zero) models. These were available in Candy Ruby Red, Candy Gold and Candy Sapphire Blue. The four-speed model got its own colors, Candy Blue Green, Candy Emerald Green, and Candy Topaz Orange. Large, bold body graphics were also in line with contemporary trends, and these varied across the years. And there was chrome, lots and lots of chrome, on the early CT-70s.

Fenders, a trim strip along the top of the frame, the kick start lever, muffler, air cleaner cap, foot brake pedal, engine guard, spark plug guard and even the taillight bracket were all the shiny stuff. Like the buddy pegs, a chrome rear rack and side grab handles were available as dealer accessories. The richness of the CT-70’s candy paints and level of detail underscored uncommon quality in a small bike. The CT-70’s headlight bucket integrated the speedometer/odometer, the bike’s only gauge, and the face showed maximum shift points. The vinyl seat cover design varied by K series. The version on the K0 bikes is a CT-70 fan favorite, according to Jeremy Polson, author of “Honda 70 Enthusiast’s Guide,” considered the definitive reference for these bikes.

It features nine heat-pressed transverse seams, five chrome buttons along the bottom of each side and the Honda name on the back. Of the 380,000 CT-70s sold in the U.S. through 1982, the K0 series bikes built through summer 1971 accounted for the biggest chunk, with about 247,000 made, an astounding number for a motorcycle in the American market. The four-speed models, while less common than the three-speeds, were not rare, accounting for about a quarter of that figure. This very well kept one has the 4 speed and only 448 miles and still has the original paint and finish. Seat, and muffler are new replacements.
