Collectible Motor Car of Atlanta is pleased to offer this PHS-documented 1964 Pontiac GTO Convertible. The first generation of the GTO is often credited with popularizing the muscle car segment in the 1960s, sparking a trend that saw all four major American automakers introducing their own muscle car models. For the 1964 and 1965 model years, the GTO was offered as an optional package on the intermediate-sized Pontiac Tempest.
This 1964 GTO underwent a frame-off restoration in the early 1980s and has since received numerous upgrades, making it a highly sought-after example. It is finished in striking Marimba Red Iridescent with a recently installed white power convertible top, complemented by a super-sharp black interior.
Under the hood is what is believed to be the original numbers-matching 389 V8 engine (code 78X), which has been upgraded to a period-correct 1964 Tri-Power system. The factory 4-speed transmission has been replaced with a modern 5-speed Tremec for improved drivability. To keep the engine cool, a “Be Cool” aluminum radiator has been installed, and Vintage Air conditioning ensures a comfortable cabin on hot summer days, even with the top up. The car sits on American Racing wheels fitted with BF Goodrich Redline tires, enhancing its classic appearance.
This GTO comes with extensive documentation, including manuals, literature, and a detailed history. As an investment-grade 1964 Pontiac GTO, it is ready for its next owner to enjoy. Inquire today to learn more.
