The 1956 Ford Thunderbird is a quintessential American classic, exuding timeless elegance and style. With its sleek, aerodynamic design and iconic curves, this vehicle perfectly captures the spirit of the 1950s. Chrome accents enhance its exterior, featuring the distinctive front grille and beautifully styled porthole windows that define the Thunderbird’s look.
This vehicle underwent a full restoration in 2000 and has since been driven only 3,284 miles. The current owners acquired it in 2010 at a Mecum Auction in Indianapolis. Originally finished in black and white, the car’s color scheme was changed during restoration to a period-correct Fiesta Red and white, adding to its classic appeal.
Under the hood, the Thunderbird is powered by the 312 cubic inch V8, the larger of the two engines available for the 1956 model. This powerplant sends its power to the rear wheels via a three-speed Ford-O-Matic transmission. The car has had limited use in recent years, but the tires have been recently inspected by a certified mechanic and are in excellent condition.
While the car has been driven over the last few weeks, there is a small, slow oil leak near the driver’s side of the engine bay. The speedometer, along with the clock, fuel, temperature gauges, and tachometer, are all fully functional. The AM/FM stereo with 8-track player is currently disconnected due to an electrical short.
The car is equipped with both a fully functioning convertible top and a hardtop, which is currently installed. The headliner of the hardtop is a stunning pearl white and is in excellent condition. Inside, the red and white interior, dashboard, carpets, and gauges are all in superb shape. The trunk is fitted with a plaid liner, and the car comes with fender skirts that are not currently installed. There are some minor imperfections: a few visible scratches on the backside of the spare tire holder, which are only noticeable upon close inspection, and a small spot of bare metal about the size of a dime just above the driver’s side headlight. These are the only exterior imperfections, with the rest of the car’s paint, chrome bumpers, and moldings in exceptional condition.
This Thunderbird sits on classic wire-spoke wheels and whitewall tires, and its undercarriage is solid with no signs of rust. The engine bay is clean and well-maintained, although the paint on the radiator fan casing shows some peeling. The car is equipped with both power steering and power brakes for a smooth, comfortable ride.
Overall, this 1956 Thunderbird is a true piece of American automotive history. Its timeless design, luxurious interior, and powerful performance make it a highly sought-after classic that continues to captivate collectors and car enthusiasts alike. The vehicle is located in northwestern Indiana.

Can you provide more photos of the undercarrige? Rust?
TomWho, thank you for your inquiry. We do not have photos of the undercarriage. This vehicle was bought by the current owner in 2010 at Mecum in Indianapolis after a full restoration. It has been garage kept ever since, and has less than 3500 miles. It has been treated with great care, and obviously minimal use in that time. There is no reason to believe there would be any rust on the undercarriage.
Do you have the rear skirts Thanks Gary
Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, the rear skirts are included. While not installed they can be seen in three of the photos in the trunk.
