1949 Willys Jeepster: The Willys Jeepster was unique for its time, offering a blend of luxury features and rugged Jeep heritage. Unlike other vehicles of the era, the Jeepster came with a host of deluxe features as standard, which were typically optional on other cars. These included whitewall tires, hubcaps with bright trim rings, sun visors, a deluxe steering wheel, wind wings, a locking glovebox, a cigar lighter, and a continental tire with a fabric cover.
Under the hood, the Jeepster was powered by Willys’ World War II-proven 134.2 cu in (2.2 L) straight-4 “Go Devil” engine. Despite its appealing design, the Jeepster was only available with rear-wheel drive, which limited its appeal to the traditional Jeep market. Priced at $1,765, it was in the same range as the Ford Super DeLuxe Club convertible, which offered roll-down windows, more stylish design, and a V8 engine.
The Jeepster’s distinctive boxy styling and solid performance received praise from automotive journalists, but it struggled to gain traction in its intended market. Limited advertising and a sparse dealer network further hampered its sales.
Key features of this 1949 Willys Jeepster include:
This Jeepster is a classic example of post-war American automotive design, combining unique styling with practical features.
