This 1971 International Harvester 1210 D-Series ¾ ton 4×4 pickup is an exceptionally well-preserved and documented example of International’s heavy-duty D-Series trucks. Originally ordered and used as a Pennsylvania fire department vehicle, this IH spent its early years in municipal service before being restored for collector ownership.
Around 2005, a previous owner purchased the truck from the Scout Connection in Fort Madison, Iowa, and commissioned a restoration. The restoration preserved the truck’s original character while returning it to a high-quality presentation.
Finished in correct-era red with a matching red interior, this 1210 is powered by its original 304 cubic-inch International Harvester V8 engine and retains its original 15,100 miles. Power is delivered through the desirable T-435 4-speed manual transmission with dual-range capability, Dana 20 transfer case, and rugged factory 4×4 drivetrain.
The chassis features the heavy-duty components expected from International’s ¾ ton platform, including a Dana 44 front axle, Dana 60 full-floating rear axle, and a 4.10 axle ratio.
The interior is believed to be original, with the exception of carpet added during the restoration. The truck is equipped with desirable options including air conditioning, power steering, and power brakes, making it a much more enjoyable vintage truck to drive.
A period-correct Delta utility box was sourced, refinished, painted, and installed in the bed, adding both function and authenticity while complementing the truck’s fire-service history.
Since the current owner’s purchase in 2013, approximately 800 miles have been added, with the truck being carefully enjoyed and maintained.
