This 1987 GMC Sierra Classic 1500 4×4 is a rare and remarkably preserved example of GM’s iconic square-body pickup, representing the final year of production for one of the most respected truck designs ever built. Showing only 15,315 original miles, this truck has remained with one family since new and has been carefully garage-kept, resulting in an exceptional, time-capsule presentation.
Power comes from the desirable 5.7-liter (350 CID) V8, equipped with Throttle Body Fuel Injection, which debuted in 1987 to improve reliability, drivability, and cold-start performance while maintaining classic V8 character. The engine is paired with a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission and a rugged factory 4×4 system, offering both capability and smooth on-road manners. Enhancing its long-range drivability, the truck is equipped with dual 15-gallon fuel tanks, a sought-after feature among collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Visually, the truck presents beautifully. The exterior is accented by period-correct chrome, including bed rails, bumper guards, and running boards, giving it the upscale appearance expected of the Sierra Classic trim. Importantly, the truck remains largely untouched, with originality preserved aside from tires, routine maintenance, a muffler, and the running boards—an increasingly rare trait among surviving square-body trucks.
Inside, the cabin is exceptionally well preserved, showing minimal wear and still carrying the unmistakable new-truck aroma. Fit, finish, and materials reflect the honest craftsmanship that made these trucks legendary for durability and longevity.
The 1987 model year holds special significance as:
• The final year of square-body production
• The first year of factory fuel injection
• The transition from K-series to V-series 4×4 designations
Highly collectible and increasingly hard to find in this condition, low-mile, unmodified short-bed 4×4 Sierra Classics continue to climb in value. This example offers rarity, originality, and historical importance—making it an outstanding addition to any serious collection or enthusiast’s garage.

Good morning
I have a couple questions. Is this a dealer selling or original family selling?
How often was truck driven during past 39 years?
Thanks
Yes, it is the original family. Meant for vehicle to be for my grandson, but he is not really into trucks.
1st 20 years was basically a Sunday Drive truck. After that it has been about once a month, for short distances.
