1956 CONTINENTAL MARK II – TIMELESS AMERICAN LUXURY
Produced by Ford’s Continental Division, the 1956 Mark II stands as one of the most refined and exclusive American luxury cars ever built. Marketed as a “personal luxury car,” it combined understated elegance with exceptional craftsmanship. Only about 3,000 were produced across 1956 and 1957—2,550 in 1956 and the remaining 444 in 1957—making it a rare and coveted classic today.
DESIGN
The Mark II is renowned for its clean, minimalist styling. Long, flowing lines, a prominent front grille, and an absence of unnecessary ornamentation gave it a sophisticated, European-inspired look that still turns heads nearly 70 years later.
PERFORMANCE
Power comes from a 368 CI (6.0L) V8 producing approximately 285 horsepower, paired with a smooth 4-speed automatic transmission. True to its luxury mission, the Mark II prioritized quiet, effortless performance over outright sportiness, delivering a serene driving experience.
LUXURIOUS INTERIOR
Inside, the cabin features high-quality leather upholstery, deep carpeting, walnut wood trim, and a range of premium amenities—power windows, advanced-for-its-time air conditioning, and upscale audio systems. Plush seating and elegant detailing made the Mark II ideal for comfortable, long-distance travel.
PRICE & EXCLUSIVITY
With a starting price of $10,000—astronomical for the mid-1950s—the Mark II was among the most expensive cars in America. Its exclusivity attracted celebrities and the elite, cementing its reputation as a true status symbol.
LEGACY
Though the Mark II was discontinued after 1957, it set the tone for the Lincoln Continentals of the 1960s and beyond. Today, it remains a highly sought-after collectible, valued for its rarity, craftsmanship, and historical significance.
THIS CAR
This 1956 Mark II Continental is an excellent example of the breed. It rides and drives beautifully, tracking straight down the road. The paint retains a nice shine, and the body panels fit well with quality finish work. Chrome trim and brightwork glisten in the sun. The original interior presents well with light wear, while the engine and trunk compartments remain nicely detailed and largely original. This is a fine driver-quality Mark II, priced accordingly, offering timeless style and collectible status in one package.

Any history regarding last owner?
Description says A/C and wood trim. Don’t see either one in the pics. The Outside AC intake vents were next to the back of the top. None there.
Correct. AC and wood trim was a option you could get but not ordered on this Mark II
No air conditioning no walnut wood grain. However a nice example.
