This 1957 El Morocco Hardtop is a truly exceptional example—one of just ten believed to have been built that year—beautifully restored in a meticulous, frame-off process. Crafted by Detroit industrialist Ruby Allender, the El Morocco was a unique experiment: a Chevrolet dressed in Cadillac-inspired styling, meant to offer the luxury look of a Cadillac at a more affordable price.

If you’re unfamiliar with the El Morocco, you’re not alone. Even seasoned collectors might do a double-take. Designed in collaboration with Creative Industries of Detroit and engineer Cyril Olbrich, the El Morocco borrowed design cues from Cadillac’s flagship Eldorado Brougham. The car featured a shaved hood, Cadillac-style “Dagmar” bumper, an eggcrate grille, custom side trim, a Cadillac-inspired rear bumper, and most distinctively—fiberglass faux tailfins that defined its unmistakable silhouette. All Chevrolet badging was removed in favor of custom “El Morocco” emblems, completing its transformation into a “junior Cadillac.”

Finished in striking Harbor Blue with a silver-painted hardtop—a clear nod to the Eldorado Brougham—this El Morocco rides on wide whitewall tires with painted steel wheels and Fiesta-style hubcaps. The chrome and brightwork, much of it bespoke, is in outstanding condition and helps set this car apart even further.

Under the hood is the correct “Power Pack” 283ci V8 with a four-barrel carburetor, producing a factory-rated 220 horsepower. It’s mated to a Powerglide automatic transmission—standard on every ’57 El Morocco—and delivers smooth, effortless driving. The dual exhaust gives it a rich, refined tone. Power steering and power brakes add to its drivability, while dual chrome mirrors aid visibility and complete the premium feel.

Inside, the car is just as impressive. The front and rear bench seats have been fully restored in a two-tone Blue and Silver upholstery that perfectly complements the exterior. Matching door panels, blue carpeting, a silver headliner, and a blue-painted dash retain the original character while showcasing the high-level restoration. The classic ’57 Chevy instrument cluster remains, featuring a 120 MPH speedometer, temp and fuel gauges, and indicator lights. A push-button AM radio, clock, locking glovebox, and a custom El Morocco dash plaque complete the interior.

This 1957 El Morocco is one of the rarest postwar American cars ever made—a stunning fusion of Chevrolet engineering and Cadillac flair. With its authentic drivetrain, unique styling, and high-quality restoration, it’s a rare opportunity to own a true collector’s gem.
