Very rare 1977 Argosy by Airstream 20 foot motorhome. They were only produced from 1974 to 1978 and were Airstream’s first venture into the motorhome market. They were called the painted Airstreams but are identical to the polished model trailers and RVs with their all aluminum, aircraft quality construction (except for the steel end caps on the roof} that is the best around. You never have to worry about roof leaks like on normal campers.

Obviously, this one has been stripped of it’s original paint and highly polished for that Classic Airstream look! It is not a cheap or easy process to have them polished. If you tried to replicate this one by having somebody polish your Argosy for you, it would cost you $10,000 minimum. Any Argosy is rare but the 20 footers are almost impossible to find. They only produced about 200 of them total and they are the smallest Class A Airstream ever made. Even among those 200, this one is even more rare because it is probably one of the most eye-catching examples left on the planet. It is extremely easy to drive, can park in a normal parking space, you can even make a U-turn at a stoplight!

Walking into this RV is like walking into a light and bright home. It has plenty of light with all of the windows and sun shades. If you want the Vanlife but are tired of cracking your head on low ceilings, having little room for anything, and having to take a shower outside while parked next to the 8000 other generic Sprinter Vans anywhere you go, you will realize how advanced Airstream was in the planning of these. You can stand up straight with plenty of extra head room, sit on your full size couch that folds into a bed and take a shower in the bathroom in the back that also has the toilet and sink. Dometic refrigerator/freezer, three burner stovetop w/overhead fan, oven, two pot sink, Onan generator, new roof air conditioning, dash AC (currently non-functional), power steering, power brakes. It has plenty of closet storage and even more storage above the couch area with roll up Tambour doors.

The Argosy runs and drives well. It is very smooth and strong. The odometer shows around 90k miles but the engine was rebuilt and has much fewer. All six tires are newer and have low miles. Alcoa look wheel liners.

Another question I don’t see the dimensions of the vehicle other than length. . If you could give me the body width and height to the tallest point on the roof with the air conditioner, included to see if I can back it into my barn, we greatly appreciate it. Thank you so much. Do you have any pictures of the underneath. I’m from an area that they have a lot of cancer on the frames around here and all those outside looks good the bottom part is terrible if that is possible I would appreciate it

  • Mogumbo says:

Do all of the lights, gauges, heater, power windows, stove, refrigerator, radio, etc., other than the in-dash A.C. work properly? Are there any leaks from the engine or transmission/rear end? Is the glass in good condition? What is the expected gas mileage, in town and on the road? Does it run well on regular gas?

    • ACC Auctions says:

      from the seller:

All lights work. Interior lights work. Gauges work, heater works, in-dash A/C does not blow cold.
      Roof A/C is new.

      No engine or transmission leaks.

The glass is in good condition.

It’s a Chevrolet big block 454 V8, I don’t know exactly what the MPG is but I’d imagine that a 7500 LBS vehicle doesn’t get awesome gas mileage.

It runs and drives very well.
