Originally introduced in the 1950s, the M35 family emerged as one of the most enduring and successful series of trucks ever employed by the U.S. military. From its service in Vietnam to its continued usage with various adaptations until the late 1990s, these vehicles left a significant mark on military logistics. The standard M35 cargo truck boasts a capacity to carry 5,000 pounds off-road or 10,000 pounds on paved roads. (Source: Olive-Drab)
This 1971 M35A2 2 1/2 Ton, also known as the “Deuce and a Half,” was manufactured by AM General and is equipped with a Hercules multifuel engine featuring a “Whistler” turbo. Power is transmitted through a Spicer Split-Shift 5-speed transmission.
Starting effortlessly and maintaining a smooth idle, this M35 has undergone seasonal repair and maintenance during the current ownership of the past four years. Alongside routine fluid and filter changes, recent maintenance includes the replacement of engine gaskets, cylinder head servicing, and fuel injection cleaning. Furthermore, an oil filter spin-on kit and a re-cored radiator have been installed. The air-assisted-hydraulic drum brakes now feature new brake lines and pads. Additionally, the 24-volt electrical system has been upgraded with two new 12-volt batteries and corresponding wiring. The body and undercarriage, as depicted in the provided photos, exhibit minimal imperfections and only scattered surface rust. The original interior remains in good condition with no notable signs of excessive wear.
Accompanying the vehicle are vintage gas cans, a shovel, a pickaxe, and a Canvas Cargo Bed Cover complete with four ribs.
Under the current ownership, this M35 has been utilized for local parades and fundraising events, demonstrating its ongoing utility and appeal.
