On March 9, 1964, Lee Iacocca made history by launching a car that would redefine design and performance standards in North America for the next four decades: the Ford Mustang. As one of the best investments in classic muscle cars, the Mustang is beloved worldwide, and finding well-preserved examples is becoming increasingly rare.

This offering is a stunning 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback, finished in its factory-correct Rangoon Red with a matching red vinyl interior. Powered by its original C-code 289ci 2-barrel V8 engine, factory-rated at 200 horsepower, this Mustang is now enhanced with a Tremec T-5 transmission for improved performance and smooth cruising. Features include factory air conditioning, power steering, a 2.80:1 rear axle ratio, new 14-inch chromed styled steel wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich double redline 6.95-14 tires, front fog lamps, fold-down rear seat, rear pillar vent louvers, Custom AutoSound AM/FM/Aux head unit, carpeted floor mats, and an aftermarket center console with cup holders and storage.

Originally produced in Louisville, KY, this Mustang was cared for in Gainesville, FL, with documented service notes and mileage records in the original owner’s manual. The car has had one repaint, but most of the interior remains original and unrestored. The original engine retains all factory components and tags, and the factory C4 3-speed automatic was upgraded to a Tremec T-5 5-speed transmission approximately seven years ago, courtesy of American Powertrain. Recent updates include a new battery (2023) and rebuilt carburetor, alternator, and starter (2024).

Upon arrival at the St. Louis Car Museum, the Mustang received new sway bar bushings, brake wheel cylinders at all four wheels, front and rear brake hoses, fresh brake fluid, new front wheel seals, a fuel filter, air filter, engine oil and filter, as well as new tires and wiper blades. The air conditioning blows cold, and the car drives beautifully, with all lights, gauges, and features in full working order.
