1962 Ford Galaxie 500XL – Custom-Built Classic with Modern Upgrades

This 1962 Ford Galaxie 500XL blends classic styling with tasteful customization and modern performance. Originally finished in Sandshell Beige, it now wears a striking two-tone paint scheme—deep black on the lower body and burnt orange up top—separated by 3-piece chrome body moldings. The look is further enhanced by a custom blacked-out grille, raised center hood spine, gleaming chrome bumpers, and period-correct “427” fender badges hinting at the power beneath the hood.

Polished Billet Specialties 5-spoke wheels wrapped in Continental Extreme Contact tires provide a killer stance, fully adjustable via a VU4 Accuair air ride system with Fox Ridetech shocks. Behind the wheels sit Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes with black calipers and slotted rotors. Chrome details throughout—from rocker moldings to dual mirrors—give this 500XL an unmistakable show-car presence.

Under the hood, a 427ci side-oiler V8 replaces the original 352. It’s paired with a Ford C6 3-speed automatic and a 9” rear end with 3.08:1 posi gears. The engine bay is clean and show-ready, featuring triple 2-barrel carbs on an aluminum intake, black finned valve covers and air cleaner, headers, Edelbrock water pump, power steering, manual 4-wheel disc brakes, and a working A/C system.

Inside, the cabin combines retro charm with custom flair. Black vinyl bucket seats and a rear bench are accented by tan carpets and an orange center console with exhaust cut-out controls and a chrome shifter. The Custom Autosound stereo plays through speakers and a trunk-mounted Alpine subwoofer. An Accuair remote and a gauge pod with Autogage volt, oil, and temp gauges sit above the painted dash. A tilt column with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, vintage-style A/C unit, and original-style trim pieces round out the stylish cockpit.

The trunk is neat and functional, housing the Accuair system, subwoofer, fire extinguishers, and a fitted car cover. The undercarriage is as clean as the top, with solid floors, a newer fuel tank, brake lines, and a Flowmaster exhaust system with cut-outs.
