Chevrolet’s first redesign after WWII was the Advanced-Design for their light and medium duty pickup trucks. It was billed as a larger, stronger, and sleeker design in comparison to the earlier AK-series.
The two-tone exterior pulls you in while the all new chrome adds class. Original styled “Chevrolet Thriftmaster” emblems rest on the side of the hood just in front of the body vent and gills. Unique to 1947, the gas filler is placed between the cab and the passenger rear wheel well; a feature that was changed for the following year. The Oak inlays for the bed are separated by color-coded bed strips. Also following the matching order are steel wheels with chrome center caps.
The period-correct 216.5-cubic-inch ThriftMaster OHV six cylinder sits underneath the hood and that’s mated to a 3 speed on the floor. The engine was freshly rebuilt before the current owner and fires up very well. Pull the choke, tap the gas a time or two, and push that ol’ skool starter on the floor to bring back those farm memories.
The interior is simple yet ample. The floors and roof have been rhino-lined to protect against corrosion and add some insulation. The bench seat rests at a comfortable height and distance from the pedals and wheel. Original-styled gauges are in place and give a clean and clear input into the trucks vitals. The speedometer does not work but a new speedo cable is included.
The Advanced-Design trucks are some of the most sought after classics. Whether you want to put this green and black beauty on the farm, or drop in a modern power plant and take this truck to the next level, all it needs is a new ass in the seat! With a folder full of documentation, this father & son restored 1947 Chevrolet 3100 is ready to put some pavement underneath it!

Very nice truck. Do I hear an exhaust leak or a valve? Color is great. Would be nice if the interior was the original color along with the seat cover. These trucks are always very tricky when restoring. Can’t wait to see the final price.
