"2000 Porsche Boxster Convertible
James Dean was an American actor, famous for movies such as ""Rebel Without a Cause"" and ""East of Eden"". He was also one of the coolest people ever to walk on this planet, along with Steve McQueen. Just like McQueen, James Dean was into racing, and after filming ""East of Eden"", he bought a few cars, including a Triumph Tiger T110 and Porsche 356. But, Dean's life ended tragically on 30th September 1955, when he crashed his newly purchased Porsche 550 which he wanted to use in his upcoming races.
As a bit of a takeoff and tribute to James Dean's 550 Spyder, the Boxer was born in 1997 and now our Hallowed Halls are graced with the presence of one of those cars in the form of a 1nd generation Porsche Boxster from 2000. Well maintained, very reliable, silver paint, and a convertible plus a hardtop, this little ball of power and handling can get you into the German sports car game at a great price and lead you to near the top of the heap. A fun driver, and ready for the next owner's enjoyment. Auf Wiedersehen
Exterior
From the outside, the 2000 Boxster features a front apron with two air-intakes on the sides. It was considered that the centrally-mounted one was useless. Indeed, it was useless unless it looked good. But the manufacturer discovered that later. The small air-intakes on the rear fenders were considered enough for the new engine range. A big improvement was the introduction of a glass rear window instead of the plastic one and on this car it is inserted into a black canvas convertible in very nice condition. Our consignor notes that the soft top needs to be reinstalled/adjusted as it does not allow the tonneau to latch properly. Also included is the very rare and very easy to remove and install factory hardtop making this a year round driver/racer. A rounded triangular shaped exhaust is placed in the middle of the rear apron which has a very bulbous appearance, along with rounded tail lights that wrap to the rear quarters, and dual rubber bumper pads in the center flanking the plate mounting. Above is a sculpted spoiler and the car is bathed in Arctic Silver Metallic. A few scuffs are on the lower portion of the car, possibly a losing encounter with a high curb. 16-inch 5 spoke wheels adorn the corners and are wrapped in deeply treaded staggered width rubber.
Interior
With top down we can examine every spicy detail of the leather interior which is covered in striking Porsche Red. European high back buckets with their ""thin"" styling and integrated headrests flank a padded Porsche red and black center console. The dash is original and has a trio of overlapping gauges within an eyebrow overhang from the dash top to shade the instruments. In the central dash, a peppering of more Porsche Red is on either side of the central cluster which contains a Porsche AM/FM/CD digital stereo, some cupholders, and a digital readout climate control panel just in front of the shift lever in the console. Porsche Red carpeting covers all the floors including the small rear stowage areas behind the buckets. In back is a dual paperclip styled roll bar which would come in handy on this soft top if you had a wheels up incident!
Drivetrain
In the mid section towards the back of this car we see a 2.7 Liter 6 cylinder engine. It is fitted with EFI and a 5-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and 3.56 geared rear axle. All is looking good under this rear hood with a recent water pump replacement, new belts, an oil change and a coolant flush.
Undercarriage
Totally rust free due to the use of plenty of stamped steel floor pans and cast aluminum suspension parts. 4-wheel independent suspension along with 4-wheel disc brakes are seen in this clean and well preserved environment.
Drive-Ability
This car fired right up and on the test track it performed well...like a Porsche Boxster! It has wonderful neck snapping acceleration, rail like handling, bias free and short distance panic stopping, and all was working to greatness. I did notice the rear spoiler warning light was on, but all else was working as intended.
A very reliable skate with the rarely seen hardtop for this Boxster from the start of a new millennium. Faithfully maintained and enjoyed, this silver zonker is ready to perform and is just a blast to drive. Turn the key and take it home...Schnell!
