"Continuing the 2-seater convertible tradition, the Mercedes SL-Class was modernized in 1989 to feature an all-new exterior presentation with more European styling aesthetics. This new platform was known as the R129 chassis and featured redesigned front and rear bumper covers for a more aerodynamic shape, and a sleeker overall presentation. It was the first Mercedes SL to feature a hydraulically operated convertible soft top, as well as an automatic rollbar for added safety. It was very well received by buyers, being produced through 2002 with several engine choices. Today, they represent one of the best road-going convertibles on the market for your money!
Offered here is a very well maintained 1997 Mercedes Benz SL500 finished in the rare factory color of Brilliant Emerald Pearl over Oyster Leather interior. Under the hood lies the durable 5.0L DOHC 32-valve V8 engine providing 315 horsepower and 347 lb. ft of torque through a 5-speed automatic transmission. Features and creature comforts remain readily available on these Mercedes luxury sport convertibles. They include automatic climate control, power windows & mirrors, 10-way adjustable seats/headrests, removable auxiliary hardtop for year-round enjoyment, Bose premium AM/FM/Cassette audio system, 16"" light alloy wheels, dual vanity mirrors, and carpeted floor mats. Our example was originally equipped with a Mercedes-branded mobile phone system with remote control in the dashboard (since removed and included in the sale).
This beautiful SL500 began life in Connecticut before making its way to Florida from 2000-2008, then delivered to St. Louis where is has been enjoyed seasonally ever since. It has always had routine annual servicing, largely conducted by our local Plaza Mercedes dealership by meticulous past owners. According to records provided, it also received new front brake pads, rotors, & sensors at 73,400 miles, new Euro Green cloth convertible top with charcoal tinted rear window in November 2021, engine coolant flush in September 2022, along with new transmission mount and front strut mounts in 2023. Today, the odometer reads only 82,270 miles.
The careful past owner of over 4 years has always garage-kept this SL500 driving it only on the fairest of days. He chose the new convertible top to better match the gorgeous exterior color, and even opted to have the rear window tinted to match the door glass. Please note that the factory radio has been re-installed and a remote 6-disc CD changer is being provided should one wish to install it. Additional items include 2 factory key fobs, all original books/manuals, wind deflector, remote mobile phone keypad, emergency manual top handle, hardtop stand with storage cover, battery charger/maintainer, and all service history dating back to 2008. Outside of some fading paint on the upper portions of the front and rear bumpers, this lovely Mercedes shows incredibly well and has been properly serviced from new! It drives out wonderfully and should make for a perfect weekend cruiser when you want some wind in your hair and have nowhere else to be! Act quickly on this one!
