As automotive production resumed following World War II, Cadillac resumed its commitment to innovation, quality, and design. The Series 62 featured streamlined styling, ample chrome trim, and Cadillac&#8217;s robust 346 cubic inch L-head V8 engine. It also marked one of the first full production years to feature the Hydra-Matic automatic transmission&#8211; an innovation that brought ease of use to luxury motoring. Convertible models like this one offered open-air elegance and were among the most expensive and exclusive vehicles of the time. Only 6,755 Series 62 Convertibles were produced in 1947, making this a rare and desirable classic.<\/p>\n<p>This 1947 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible is a restorable project with a clean title. It was a running\/driving car before being disassembled for restoration, with the original take-off parts retained, plus additional (duplicate) parts collected over the past 40 years by the prior collector\/owner.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Body \/ Chassis<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete rolling chassis and body<\/li>\n<li>Chassis was stripped and painted black<\/li>\n<li>Body has been stripped and primered, ready for final body work and paint<\/li>\n<li>Trunk was painted as test sample of what color they picked<\/li>\n<li>Two (2) complete convertible top frames and assemblies<\/li>\n<li>Three (3) complete rear axles<\/li>\n<li>Two (2) complete front suspensions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Exterior \/ Interior Components<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>PLEASE REVIEW THE EXTENSIVE PHOTO GALLERY TO SEE THE ORIGINAL PARTS INCLUDED<\/li>\n<li>This was a running\/driving car before disassembly, and the original take-off parts were retained and are included in this sale<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Backstory (on the drivetrain components included below)<\/h4>\n<p>Collector\/Prior owner is a family uncle who was in the Navy who later worked up to be a submarine machinist. He tells the story that the military received new tanks, which used the Cadillac L-head (&#8220;flathead&#8221;) V8 and iron case Hydra-Matic transmissions. They had a test track, where they tested the tanks, wide open throttle for 20 minutes. If there were no problems (engine or otherwise), then the tank was put in service. If there were any issues, the engine and transmission were removed and replaced with new unit. Take out engines typically had a known, but fixable, lifter problem, however, they were scrapped. This is where the majority of the new old stock engine parts were acquired. You can tell the tank engines as the head is cast with \u201cCadillac\u201d while the car heads were non-branded.<\/p>\n<h4>Engine \/ Components<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Six(6) engine blocks: One fully machined, valves lapped in and ready for reassembly. Connecting rods, refurbished\/re-szied big end, new pistons, NOS rings and bearings, one set of cylinder heads machined, etc<\/li>\n<li>Five(5) engine cores: 2 nearly complete, 3 in long block configuration partially disassembled<\/li>\n<li>Three (3) Stromberg carburetors with what appears to be OEM rebuild kits&#8211; not certain if they were already rebuilt\/unknown status<\/li>\n<li>Eight(8) sets of cylinder heads. 2 sets of Tank only heads that have Cadillac cast into them<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Transmissions<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>One (1) Take-out Hydra-Matic Tank transmission (internal parts same as car), was separated from known bad tank engine<\/li>\n<li>Two (2) transmission cores (status unknown)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Parts Included:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Original take-off parts from when the car was disassembled for restoration<\/li>\n<li>New restored steering wheel<\/li>\n<li>New fuel tank still in box<\/li>\n<li>Multiples of many engine parts, some new old stock, some take-off\/usable cores<\/li>\n<li>Multiple sets of hubcaps in various condition<\/li>\n<li>Large collection of Cadillac Magazine and related articles to support restoration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>The original trim tag decodes as follows:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>YEAR: 47 &#8211; Model year 1947<\/li>\n<li>STYLE: 6267 &#8211; Series 62 Convertible<\/li>\n<li>BODY: FW 3855 &#8211; Fleetwood Plant, 3,855th Series 62 convertible body produced for 1947 model year<\/li>\n<li>TRIM: 74 &#8211; Gray Bedford Cord<\/li>\n<li>PAINT: 11 &#8211; Seine Blue<\/li>\n<li>TOP: 1 &#8211; Tan with Tan binding<\/li>\n<li>ACC: K &#8211; Under-seat heating system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Additional 1947 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe parts car available:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>See photos of the parts car at the end of the gallery<\/li>\n<li>No title<\/li>\n<li>Included in the sale if buyer wants it<\/li>\n<li>Very rusty but has a drivetrain, engine harness, and some exterior trim<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Old Cars Price Guide<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>#4 Condition (FAIR) at $22,000 &#8212; Defined as a vehicle in drivable condition needing restoration<\/li>\n<li>#5 Condition (RESTORABLE) at $13,200 &#8212; Defined as a vehicle needing complete restoration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1947 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible Project The 1947 Cadillac Series 62 represented the epitome of American luxury in the immediate post-war era.
