Many enthusiasts consider \u201964 to be the best of the early Corvairs.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"568\" data-end=\"993\">This example is the real deal\u2014not a clone\u2014with the correct \u201c06\u201d in the VIN and matching data plate to prove its Spyder heritage. It was born Ember Red and remains so today, wearing an older repaint that still presents well. The body is extremely straight with no evidence of rust or patchwork, and the undercarriage has been sanded and painted. The trunk compartment is solid and original, showing no signs of past repairs.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"995\" data-end=\"1267\">The engine, coded YR, is from a 1962 turbocharged car, while a factory \u201964 would have been coded YM. Regardless, it runs strong with its turbocharger in place. A great deal of time and money has been invested in the past year with receipts to show. Recent work includes:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1269\" data-end=\"1620\">\n<li data-start=\"1269\" data-end=\"1291\">\n<p data-start=\"1271\" data-end=\"1291\">New white soft top<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1292\" data-end=\"1334\">\n<p data-start=\"1294\" data-end=\"1334\">Reproduction seat covers with new foam<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1335\" data-end=\"1395\">\n<p data-start=\"1337\" data-end=\"1395\">New door panels, quarter panels, carpet, and sill plates<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1396\" data-end=\"1450\">\n<p data-start=\"1398\" data-end=\"1450\">Rebuilt carburetor, new fuel pump, and distributor<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1451\" data-end=\"1488\">\n<p data-start=\"1453\" data-end=\"1488\">All new brake lines and cylinders<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1489\" data-end=\"1551\">\n<p data-start=\"1491\" data-end=\"1551\">Chrome fuel lines, battery, tires, pushrod tubes and seals<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1552\" data-end=\"1620\">\n<p data-start=\"1554\" data-end=\"1620\">Fresh tune-up with most parts sourced from Clark\u2019s Corvair Parts<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1622\" data-end=\"2041\">Mechanically, the car starts easily, shifts smoothly, brakes well, steers straight, and the turbo works as it should. Importantly, it\u2019s also free of oil leaks. Still, like many vintage turbo Corvairs, it requires a bit of patience and mechanical know-how. The idle could use fine-tuning, and a few details remain: the dash pad is cracked, the fuel\/temp\/boost gauges are inoperative, and the AM radio doesn\u2019t power on.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2043\" data-end=\"2426\">Cosmetically, the older paint could benefit from a cut and polish but remains serviceable for now. Overall, this is a very solid, straight, and authentic Spyder convertible\u2014an ideal candidate to enjoy as-is or take to the next level.
