The Big Picture:

The Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport was introduced in 1996 to commemorate the end of the C4 design. The name “Grand Sport” pays tribute to the 1963 Grand Sport, of which GM only made five. In 1996, production was limited to 1,000 units, with 810 coupes and 190 convertibles.

Pop open the hood and you’ll find the LT4 engine, delivering 330 horsepower and 340 foot-pounds of torque. This version of the popular 5.7-liter small-block V-8 features deeper-breathing cylinder heads, a different crankshaft, a higher-lift camshaft, and higher-rate fuel injectors, among other enhancements. The LT4 engine starts, idles, and runs like new, with no smoke. It is paired with a six-speed manual transmission that shifts effortlessly, controlling all that power.

The glossy Torch Red paint stands out against the black interior, making this a stunning car. The C4 fastback coupe has a glass hatchback with a remote hatch release for better storage access and a rear window defogger. The removable fiberglass roof panel keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Inside, you’ll find a host of conveniences that provide plenty of comfort and style for your cruising pleasure. The bucket leather power seats are adjustable in six different ways with lateral support. Additional amenities include a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, power windows, and power door locks. Enjoy your favorite classics with the Delco Bose AM/FM stereo radio featuring seek-scan, cassette, and CD player. The car also includes cold A/C and an analog/digital liquid crystal display instrumentation that shows speed, RPM, fuel level, and other essential engine functions.

Additional features include an anti-theft system, cruise control, airbags, power disc brakes, power steering, tilt wheel, and electronic speed control. This Corvette is fun to drive and is loaded with features, ready to be enjoyed by its new owner. The C4 Corvettes are climbing in value and are a great addition to any collection.

Why are some year models of corvette so cheap?

  • ACC Auctions says:

Sorry for the confusion on this listing. The owner just clarified that this is NOT actually a Grand Sport Corvette. HOWEVER this Corvette has a factory ordered Grand Sport package included. We are getting a picture of the window sticker from the seller hopefully this weekend with additional details!

    • frictionmod says:

Its a 96 collectors edition pkg, But that is the same equipment as the grand sport pkg, just not the iconic GS paint, If someone is looking for a C4 and they want the best, your choices are this and the ZR1. And no one ever did a performance test between the 2……..

    • JJbids says:

Hi, I don’t want to take away from what this car is but there is a lot of misunderstanding with these last year C4 corvettes. This is a great car with the LT4 engine, but it is just a base coupe. RPO Z15, “collector edition” cars are all silver with various color interiors, this is not that. All LT4 engines in 1996 have a throttle body cover that says, “grand sport”, maybe Chevrolet should not have done that because it creates confusion. These LT4 cars are great performers regardless of what options they have and the 330hp rating is likely lower than what they actually are. I have had dozens of these cars over the years. Chevrolet made 6359 LT4 equipped in 1996 Corvettes, someone should buy this and enjoy it for what it actually is, a base coupe with the LT4 engine option (like all 6 speed cars) in 1996.

    • frictionmod says:

Maybe its just timing, but when I worked at a Chevy dealer around this time, I only saw the G/S and collectors additions with the LT4, If there were base corvettes that also got them simply by the box check when ordered, how are these in rarity? there were so many G/S pkg cars, and so many collectors editions, How many just checked the box and that that plant?

    • JJbids says:

Every 6-speed car in 1996 was an LT4. They made 1000 Z16 Grand sports and 2009 Z15 Collector edition cars that were LT4 equipped. That leaves 3350 LT4 cars that were some other configuration or combination of options. I have several C4’s at the moment and the LT4’s are by far my favorites.

  • AKerchoff says:

This is just a 1996 Corvette Coupe with the LT-4 engine and 6-Speed and base suspension (not electronically adjustable). As JJbids correctly stated, Grand Sport Corvettes were different, blue with white stripes and hash marks on the fender. So this NOT a Grand Sport NOR does it have a 6-speed automatic (a 4-speed auto was the option of the day).

  • JJbids says:

This car is not a Grand Sport……1996 Grand Sport Corvettes had a unique VIN series ranging from 1G1YY2251T5600001 to 1G1YY2251T5601000. They are all Admiral Blue with a White stripe. This is an LT4 coupe.
