This is a stunning 1970 AMC AMX, meticulously restored and showing only 1,938 miles since completion. This exceptional showpiece is not your typical AMX, featuring a comprehensive restoration where every component has been repaired, replaced, or restored.

Under the hood, you’ll find a freshly rebuilt 401 V8 engine, bored 0.060 over to produce 425 horsepower, with only 1,500 miles on the new engine. It’s paired with a rebuilt T10 automatic transmission and features custom finned aluminum valve covers, a Howard cam, reworked Edelbrock Performer aluminum heads, a Quick Fuel 650 CFM double-pumper carburetor, and an Edelbrock Air-Gap intake manifold. The ignition system includes an Edelbrock Max-Fire “Ready to Run” electronic distributor. The rear houses a fresh 3.73 Posi differential, providing an ideal balance for highway driving.

Exhaust upgrades include custom-made, mandrel-bent, stainless steel long-tube headers from American Racing Headers, paired with a CVS serpentine system in a mix of black and chrome finishes, including components such as the compressor, alternator, power steering pump, and reservoirs. Cooling is handled by a large custom aluminum radiator with dual fans. Air conditioning has been upgraded to a Vintage Air system, complete with a new mini AC compressor and hoses.

The electrical system is fully renewed with brand-new wiring and harnesses, complemented by a fresh battery. The braking system is fully rebuilt with new parts, including Wilwood front disc brakes and new rear drums, brake shoes, cylinders, master cylinder, and emergency brake cables.

The AMX rides on brand-new tires (300 miles driven), sized 14×7 in the front and 15×8 in the rear, with new coil-over shocks all around. Custom mufflers from American Racing Headers and a new fuel sending unit complete the performance enhancements.

Cosmetically, this AMX is finished in its original striking red-on-red color combination. The body is exceptionally straight, featuring a beautiful hood. The red interior boasts new door panels, original seats with fresh covers, padding, and springs, a Hurst shifter with new Hurst linkage and rods, a gorgeous wood-grain dash, and a redone original gauge cluster reset to zero. Added touches include Stewart Warner gauges for fuel and temperature, a custom center console with cup holders, a Custom Autosound radio with aux-in, new carpet in the front, rear speakers, sail panels, and a pristine headliner.

Originally equipped with a 360 V8 and automatic transmission, this AMX now offers a thrilling experience with a lumpy, powerful sound. Lightweight at just 3,000 pounds, it’s fast, fun, and rides low to the ground. Built with a blend of AMC, Ford, and Mopar components, this car balances comfort and drivability.

Over $67,000 and 18 months have been invested in this masterpiece. Restoration photos and receipts are included. The 1970 model year is among the rarest and most desirable for the AMX, with a limited production of just over 4,000 units due to a strike affecting parts and labor. This remarkable AMX is located in Commack, NY, 11725.
