This 1968 Chevrolet Nova SS L-78 is a numbers-matching, rotisserie-restored classic, completed to an exceptional standard. Powered by the original 396ci/375 HP V8 engine and paired with the matching 4-speed Muncie transmission, this Nova boasts incredible performance and authenticity. The car retains its correct L-78 heads, intake, and axle, ensuring that every component is original to this rare model.
The stunning Fathom Blue Poly (Code E-E) paint, applied in basecoat-clearcoat, is a rare and beautiful finish that matches the trim tag. All chrome and stainless trim on the car is in pristine condition, reflecting the quality of the restoration. The Muncie 4-speed transmission features a case #660 with the VIN clearly stamped on the side, and the car is equipped with the correct L-78 12-bolt posi-traction rear end with 4.56 gears, axle tube #BW 0619.
Additional details include the correct L-78 intake #3933163, L-78 heads #3919840, power front disc brakes, a Hurst shifter, and a dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers. The car’s restoration was completed in recent years and the attention to detail is evident throughout. It also features restored original steel wheels with base hubcaps and new radial redline tires, along with a black cloth and vinyl interior with the correct bench seat and modern digital radio.
This 1968 Chevy II Nova SS L-78 is an extremely rare and well-documented vehicle, with only 667 L-78 Chevy II SS Novas produced in 1968, making it one of the most sought-after classic muscle cars. The restoration, which shows just 36,663 miles on the odometer (with approximately 450 miles driven since the restoration), is of show-quality condition, with every component carefully restored to its factory specification. The attention to detail is so thorough that it could be considered slightly over-restored, yet it drives perfectly, delivering immense power and an exhilarating driving experience.
The 1968 Chevy II Nova SS was the first year for this body style and includes unique features such as the dash-mounted ignition, SS dash pad, foil badges, and 3-spoke SS steering wheel—making this model a true collector’s gem. It’s a rare opportunity to own a piece of history, with the combination of rarity, originality, and exceptional restoration making this Nova a standout in any collection.

The L78 Nova (Chevy ll) was the most “Bang for your buck” back in the 60’s. I bought one and still have it after 56 years. It ran high 11″s at Carlsbad Raceway with nothing more than a set of slicks, headers, and a Hurst shifter. Nothing touched it on the street. Those were the days.
