1957 FORD FAIRLANE SKYLINER HARDTOP CONVERTIBLE.

A Classic Restoration Project with Potential

This 1957 Ford Fairlane Skyliner is an opportunity to breathe new life into a piece of American automotive history. As a project car from Arizona, it’s the perfect old-school candidate for a full restoration, offering the chance to create a stunning blend of classic style and modern performance.

The Skyliner’s claim to fame is its innovative retractable hardtop, a marvel of 1950s engineering that still functions in this example. Paired with the power windows, the original features of this car provide a solid foundation for a high-end restoration.

Under the hood, the 312 V8 engine has received a fresh tune-up, and key components like the water pump, fuel pump, and power steering hoses have all been replaced. The 3-speed automatic transmission offers smooth driving, while the new brakes and drums ensure safety. The car now sits on fresh whitewall tires, ready to roll. The rebuilt carburetor ensures that once this beauty is fully restored, it will be ready to deliver the performance it was designed for.

With just 53,654 miles on the odometer, this Fairlane has plenty of life left, making it an even more attractive candidate for a restoration project.

The bodywork presents both a challenge and an opportunity. The front fenders are new, and the doors are in decent shape, but the quarter panels will need to be replaced—a task made easier by the availability of replacement parts. Included with the sale are two chrome spotlights a new valance panel that fits beneath the grille, and chrome moldings to add that perfect finishing touch for a frame-off restoration.

Inside, the car tells a story of its past, with an interior that’s mostly intact but in need of some attention. The passenger seat will require reupholstering, but overall, the cabin offers a glimpse of what could be, with the right amount of care and creativity.

Also included are a shop manual, parts catalog, and other books—essential resources for anyone looking to bring this classic back to its former glory.

This 1957 Ford Fairlane Skyliner is not just a restoration project; it’s a canvas for your automotive vision. Whether you’re looking to create a show-stopping Resto-mod or simply want to preserve a piece of history, this Skyliner is your chance to build something truly special. Don’t miss out on the potential to transform this classic into a head-turner that will commands attention wherever she goes.

Will the hardtop retract t all the way down for traveling, I don’t think I saw it stored? Thank you

    • ACC Ken says:

Yes, the hardtop fully retracts. If you’re seriously considering purchasing the car, I’d be happy to reach out to the owner and arrange to shoot a video demonstrating the hardtop retracting and being stored. Thank you.

  • 1390jamesm says:

It appears only the bottom of the rear quarters need replaced which are available. How is the frame? Do floors need replaced? One of the pictures shows a factory radio and the video shows an aftermarket radio playing? Would like an answer to this. Were video and pictures taken at different times? When were pictures and videos taken? Thanks

    • ACC Ken says:

The 1957 Ford has a solid frame, boasting a half-inch thick X-frame, characteristic of the convertible hardtop model. The lower quarter panels do require replacement, but the overall structure remains intact. The Ford spent over two decades in the dry climate of Arizona under its previous owner before making its way to Ohio, and the car retains its original factory components, including the factory radio, with no aftermarket modifications. Recent photographs and videos taken in September of this year show a well-preserved interior, with only a small, 3×3 inch hole on the passenger side corner of the front floor pan, which has been covered with aluminum. Overall, the floor pan remains solid, making this a promising restoration project.
