This 1953 Pontiac Chieftain Convertible is a beautifully restored, 50s convertible with great options and an eye-catching look! In 1953, after nearly a decade of growth and high demand, the American automotive market began to plateau, leading America’s automakers to compete for customers. Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors introduced major style changes in 1953 to attract new buyers to the Pontiac brand.

Pontiac’s 1953 lineup consisted of the Chieftain, divided into two sub-series: the Six and the Eight, representing 6-cylinder and 8-cylinder engines respectively. The redesigned 1953 models were unveiled to the public on December 6, 1952, featuring a brand new look from every angle. The front end received a new single-piece wraparound windshield, redesigned grille and headlights, and a lit-up “Indian Head” hood ornament. The side profile showcased more accentuated rear quarter panels and new look gravel guards. The rear end was updated with a contoured deckline and integrated backup lights.

Inside the ’53 Pontiacs, there were new-look instrument clusters and a “Key-Quick” automatic ignition starter. These modern updates helped Pontiac maintain its fifth place ranking among American auto manufacturers in 1953. Under the hood of this ’53 Pontiac Convertible is a 268.4 Cubic Inch L-Head Inline 8 engine producing 122 horsepower when new. It is paired with a Hydra-Matic Automatic transmission, making it easy to drive.

This 1953 Pontiac Convertible comes equipped with great options such as power steering, a light beige power convertible top, a driver’s side chrome mirror, auxiliary spotlight, fog lamps, bumper guardettes, and a lit-up “Indian Head” hood ornament. The car rides on recently replaced Wide Whitewall Radial tires on painted steel wheels with full Pontiac wheel covers, giving it a great look and ride.

The exterior is refinished in a beautiful Linden Green paint scheme, while the interior features reupholstered two-tone White and Green leather seats. The matching green carpeting, upholstered door panels, painted dash, and steering wheel are all in excellent condition. The instrument cluster includes a 100 MPH speedometer, battery gauge, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, and fuel gauge. The dash also features a locking glovebox, clock, and push-button AM radio.

Whether you’re a collector adding to your Pontiac collection or a first-time classic car buyer, this 1953 Pontiac Chieftain Convertible would be an excellent addition.
